What Is It

Creative nonfiction is a form or genre of writing which blends a delicate mixture of the two ends of
writing (being fiction and nonfiction). It uses literary tropes to create a factually based narrative. This is
far from writing creative stories that are surreal. For instance, the narratives about the man who slayed
giants and saved the queen who were stocked at the top of the giant monstrous bean vines. Creative
nonfiction focuses on the accurate information, however needs to make it more creative.
Creative nonfiction can use the following devices:
1. cinematic techniques- this gives the reader
the chance to visualize the happenings,
environment and the mood of the narrative. For
instance, author uses imagery to let the readers
have visualization about the life of Jose Rizal.
The author is creative enough to create
cinematic techniques to tell the true story of
Rizal’s life.
2. traditional essay techniques- for example, thinking is shown
clearly on the page, trace consciousness and thought processes
written down as you process the story yourself. Authors do have
their own styles and makes them remarkable to the readers.

3. empathy-ideas shall be made understandable regardless of the

complexity of the plot, meaning empathy gives us the
comprehension of what actually is happening in the narrative.
This technique also establishes the relationship of readers to the
author as they could relate themselves to the narrative itself.

5. arguing with yourself on the page- i.e. paradoxes,

showing how the mind actually works. This device is understood when the
reader himself think deeply beyond the text itself. The author will be able
to make the reader anticipate possible outcomes in the narratives.

6. uses narrative tension —

which straight nonfiction
typically doesn’t use (I what is going to happen next? creates a sense of
anticipation). This does not apply to genres that is straightforward and the
intention is to inform the readers.

It can also include:

poetry and song lyrics authenticity about events never witnessed
(meaning the narrative can be someone else’s and the details can be
writer’s) or biography in short.Creative nonfiction is about
reflection and getting consciousness on the page with a heightened
attention to language and voice. It essentially poses a pertinent
questions (most pertinent to the writer but one that is often universally
relatable) and then we witness the transgressions as the
writer comes to any sort of conclusion or solution (even if that
conclusion that there is no conclusion).
