General Objective:

Acquisition and application of knowledge, skills, and observe proper attitude (KSA)
through the utilization of the Nursing Process in providing basic health services to
patient/s having disturbances in with emphasis on the following concepts:
cardiovascular, neurologic, respiratory and gastrointestinal tract in the ward with
emphasis on curative, rehabilitative and preventive aspects in the hospital.

Specific Learning Objectives:

At the end of 20 hours of Related Learning Experience (RLE), I shall be able to:

1. Establish rapport with the clinical instructor and co-nursing students, OR/DR
staff, and interdepartmental surgical team in the hospital professionally;

2. Participate actively in pre-and post-conference, collaborative and interactive


synchronous activities;

3. Orient myself with the physical set-up and policies of the hospital’s OR/DR
thoroughly;
4. Identify the personnel of the hospital especially the nursing staff and doctors
of the OR/DR courteously;
5. Apply the concept of perioperative nursing in an actual situation
systematically;
6. Obtain essential information for the operation to be carried out for the day
comprehensively;
7. Link information in Anatomy and Physiology to the actual operation
knowledgeably;

8. Employ the principles of aseptic techniques correctly;

9. Execute pre-operative preparations needed objectively by observing sterile


principle techniques such as;
10. Identify patient for operation correctly;
11. Initiate a non judgemental interpersonal relationship with the patient by using
the different therapeutic communication techniques;
12. Perform a pre-operative assessment to the patient;
13. Aid in surgery and anticipate surgeon’s needs alertly;
14. Assist in counting sponges before, during and after surgery thoroughly;
15. Verify risk factors for surgery;
16. Monitor and record vital signs properly;
17. Identify patients psychological and physiological responses to surgery
thoroughly;
18. Convey health teachings correctly;
19. Identify patient’s needs and problems thoroughly
20. Accomplish the patient’s history of present illness, physical assessment as
well as the instrument used comprehensively;
21. Evaluate the effectiveness of care rendered to the patient at the end of RLE
duty honestly.
