In case of any nonconformity occurs, including any arising
from complaints, take the following steps- A) React to the nonconformity and, as applicable: 1) Take action to control and correct it; 2) Deal with the consequences; B) Evaluate the need for action to eliminate the cause(s) of the nonconformity, in order that it does not recur or occur elsewhere, by: 1) Reviewing and analyzing the nonconformity; 2) Determining the causes of the nonconformity; 3) Determining if similar nonconformities exist, or could potentially occur; C) Implement any action needed; D) Review the effectiveness of any corrective action taken; E) Update risks and opportunities determined during planning, if necessary; F) Make changes to the quality management system, if necessary. Corrective actions shall be appropriate to the effects of the nonconformities encountered. Problem Solving (IATF16949) The organization shall have a documented process (es) for problem solving including:
a) Defined approaches for various types and scale of problems (e.g.,
new product development, current manufacturing issues, field failures, audit findings);
b) Containment, interim actions, and related activities necessary for
control of nonconforming outputs (see ISO 9001, Section 8.7);
c) Root cause analysis, methodology used, analysis, and results;
d) Implementation of systemic corrective actions, including
consideration of the impact on similar processes and products;
e) Verification of the effectiveness of implemented corrective actions;
f) Reviewing and, where necessary, updating the appropriate
documented information (e.g., PFMEA, control plan). Where the customer has specific prescribed processes, tools, or systems for problem solving, the organization shall use those processes, tools, or systems unless otherwise approved by the customer.
Preventive Actions (IATF16949)
Potential nonconformities need to be determined and prevented. A process shall be established to lessen the impact of negative effects of risk including the following:
(a) determining potential nonconformities and their causes;
(b) evaluating the need for action;
(c) determining and implementing action needed;
(d) documented information of action taken;
e) reviewing the effectiveness;
f) utilizing lessons learned to prevent recurrence in similar processes.
Preventive actions shall be appropriate to the severity of the potential issues.
