Magdalena Gonzaga Jalandoni was a Filipino feminist writer. She is now remembered as one of the most

"The Love of Magdalena Jalandoni" by Winton Lou G. Ynion captures the essence of the 'binukot' (isolated)
lifestyle of the Reina of Hiligaynon Literature. He particularly emphasizes her love of writing which led her to
sacrifice elements considered to be essential in society, such as marriage. Magdalena Jalandoni is also the
perfect representation of someone who challenged the norms and stereotypes present in society.
Summary
Amgdalena Jalandoni grew up hearing her mother’s stories about Jose Rizal and his works. She grew fond of
him and even considered him first love. She was five years old when Jose Rizal died. She looked up to her
and influenced her greatly. At 13, she had one of works published by La Editorial in Iloilo city.
At 18, Magdalena agreed to marry a man of honorary statue out of obedience and respect to her mother in one
unique condition; be that, the man should a novel that same year. The man’s failure lead to Magdalena’s status
of being single, thus giving her a chance to produce more literary works, makes canvasses inspired by her first
love’s famous novel, and even carve status.
