Cutting – Edge Technology

Cutting Edge Technology commonly refers to the latest computer

and electronic technology that uses the most current and
advanced IT developments.

AUGMENTED REALITY (AR)

• Augmented reality involves adding computer generated content
to the real world so that the content looks as if it is also a part
of that world.
• The computer -generated content can be an animation and image,
or a sound over laid onto the real world thus augmenting the way
we see hear and feel.

Types of AUGMENTED REALITY (AR)

Markerless Augmented Reality
• Marker – based Augmented Reality
• Projection – based Augmented Reality
• Superimposition – based Augmented Reality

Markerless Augmented Reality

-Markerless AR needs a device with GPS that can provide data,
based on your location. it is position based or location based.
• It can generate maps and directions to help you to reach a
location.
• Smartphones use this technology to provide you information
about traffic or restaurant hospitals shopping malls and other
such facilities in your vicinity. Several cab services used this
feature so that cabs book by you can lock it and reach you.

• Marker – based Augmented Reality

Also known as image recognition. it needs a device with a camera
and a visual marker when the camera reads divisional marker the
content linked to that marker gets displayed. This technology is
used to read QR codes or to view digital content such as
animations or three-dimensional (3D) models.

• Projection – based Augmented Reality -This involves projecting

artificial light onto a real-world physical surface. The user can
interact with this projected light. The AR senses any interaction
by detecting changes in the projected light. For example, a
projecter keyboard device projects a virtual keyboard onto a
desk, detects the keys pressed by the user by sensing the position
of the user's fingers on the virtual keyboard unresponsive
accordingly.

• Superimposition – based Augmented Reality-

This involves replacing the original view of an object partially or
fully with an augmented view of the same object.
• For superimposition-based AR to work object recognition plays
an important role. If an object cannot be accurately defined, it
cannot be replaced with AR.
• Some gaming apps for smartphones use the camera of the phone
to capture the real-world scenes and show computer generated
characters in it.
• You can also use this technology to check how a piece of
furniture would look in your room.
Application of AR
• Gaming
• Interactive models and simulations in education
• AR in military
• Medical science
• Map generating in smartphones
• 3D models in marketing
• Travelling and sightseeing
• AR simulations in maintenance and repair

Virtual Reality
• Virtual reality refers to near reality computer generated
environment.
• This computer-generated world is 3D in nature and allows the
user to interact with it.
• It blocks out the user's vision of the real world by using head
mounted display. The user can get a 360-degree view of the
virtual bird by moving his his/her head.
• Sometimes VR technology uses surround sound headphones,
special gloves controllers, and such joysticks to interact with the
objects of the virtual world and provide feedback to the user.
Application of VR
⦁ • Gaming ,
⦁ Train people for jobs that are hard to do in the real world,
⦁ For complex scientific experiments,
⦁ Telemedicine,
⦁ Architects and engineers to prototype the product,
⦁ Education
⦁ Movies.
