Previous Knowledge: Knowing the various parts of the sewing machine and their use.

General Objective: at the end of this lesson, students should be able to operate the sewing machine by
stitching various training materials

Specific Objective: Make strait and cornered stitches

Resources Needed: Sewing Machine; printed training stitches paper; fabric for underlay and common
pins.

STEPS KEY POIINTS


Clean work surface of the sewing Ensure to use a damp cloth to clean
machine work surface in order to keep your
work clean.

Gather work materials This activity helps to prevent


drudgery. Have everything you need
at your machine so you won’t have to
move from place to place.
Sit at the sewing machine
Position yourself on a comfortable
chair, eye level should be in front of
the machine needle; sit with back
straight to prevent back/neck
strain/ache.
Starting a row stitches on training

Pin paper unto fabric in order to


protect the Machine’s feed dog. Raise
needle to the highest point;
raise presser foot; position training
stitch paper under presser foot;

the start point; gently lower presser

putting foot on the treadle/motor
