II. Solving Problem (80 points)


1) From the figure given below, determine the number of A490 high strength bolt (threads are not excluded
from shear planes) that could resist the loads without failing. Assume the plate bars to be
adequate.(25pts)

2) A round bar of 25mm in diameter undergoes a tensile load of 120kpa. The gage length is 30cm and fracture
length is 33.54cm.Compute the axial strain every 10mm and the total elongation after fractured.(25pts.)

3) Given below is the bolted connection of A36 steel plate 12mm thick to another 15mm thick steel plate A36. The
bolt is A325, threads are excluded in the shear plane with a diameter of 25mm. Using the minimum Fu for A36
Steel Plate, analyze the allowable load that this connection can resist.(30pts)
