Instructions
You will need: one set of cut-up cards and one copy of the complete
worksheet per pair or group

• Shuffle each set of cards before giving them out. Students work
in pairs or small groups to put the story in order. Explain that the
opening sentence is numbered 1 and that the story is told from the
wife’s point of view. Tell them that it will help if they first identify
the cards with the ten linking words or phrases.
• At the end of the activity, give out the complete worksheet for
students to check their answers. In open class, discuss a possible
answer to the final question, why the burglar was never arrested or
punished.
