Introduction
Old age homes are for old people where they are taken care. They are given food and
place to live. The old age homes are some institutions run by a trust or some people. The
old people who are alone or don't have someone to take care can live in these places.
Helpless people of above 60 years irrespective of race, cast and creed can be rehabilitated
with the full responsibility in a centre named “Old Age Home/ Old Nursing”. All basic
amenities like accommodation, foods, cloths, medicines and other facilities are provided
free of cost to the neglected, unable to earn livelihood and helpless old peoples of above
60 years till their death in the centre. Necessary medical facilities are also provided.
There is required number of nurses to look after the elderly. The centre may also have its
own health care centre, where there are an MBBS doctor and several compounders for
treatment of the elderly. Necessary medicines are prescribed and provided free of cost
and ambulances are also available in case patients need to be transported to other medical
centres/hospitals. It can have a pathological laboratory and Ex-Ray machine for medical
diagnosis. The elderly will receive free medical check-up regularly at the medical centre.

Motivation

Why Old Age Homes are required?

For the elderly & senior people this is very important issue because you need utmost
medical care & look after when you grow old whether you are in Bangladesh or
anywhere in the world. There are many reasons for looking for old age homes /
retirement care homes in Bangladesh such as migration or location of children due to
their work / lack of time in youngsters / neglect / family problems etc.
The concept of the old age home has become quite familiar today, but often for the wrong
reasons. The idea seems to evoke a sigh of pity which is uncalled for. Firstly, it has been
ascertained by social surveys that there need not be any stigma attached to the residents
of old age homes and neither do they require our pity. Secondly, many parents of middle
class families are neither neglected nor abandoned by their children.

Eligibility Requirements

Who can stay in Old Age Home?

Any man, woman, or couple or sisters or brothers above 55/60 years or after retirement can join at Old
Age Home. In case of couples at least one of the partners should have attained the age of 55/60 years or
after retirement. Special permission is required from the management if the applicant is below this age.

Will the monthly fee stay permanent? When will you increase it?

The Monthly Charge is fare if it is got fixed. Charge can be increased to various factors.

What is the procedure to enroll?

Forms can be found along with the admission prospectus which can be abstained online, or from the Old
Age Home office and representatives. Enrollment can be done through call in Helpline numbers or via
email.
While enrolling do you require proofs of date of birth, nomination, address for an emergency, etc?

Yes, form will take care of all that. No marriage certificate required.

What is the cost involved for enrolment?

A token amount can be required for enrolling and putting your name on the list.

What are the medical formalities to be undergone? Whether check-up is necessary?

Medical Check-Up by Old Age Home’s gerontologist is required before admission.

If members of standard care program can change to deluxe care program?

Members of Standard Care program can anytime change in to deluxe care program. The change of
monthly charges would be applicable from the date of change.

I am single. Can I book an entire Double apartment for myself? Would I have to pay double
monthly fees in that case?

Any resident who wants to book an entire double apartment or occupy two seats would have to pay the
security deposit entitled for two persons. The refunds would be applicable in the same way. No. The
service charges per month would not be doubled. They will remain the same.

I am not a resident of Old Age Home.Can I participate in the programs of Old Age Home and
remain attatched with the institution?

Yes,You can. Old Age Home is a unique project, developed with the idea of providing better lifestyle and
services for the senior living community. Old Age Home welcomes your ideas and encourages your
participation in this social process. You may call to their helpline numbers or register yourself and they
will get back to you.

What items do Residents have to bring?

Residents have to bring their personal belongings like clothing, nightwear, shoes, chappals, shaving kits,
perfumes, powder, nail cutter, prayer items and any other items that may be required for their day to day
requirements.

Administration
In a sense an Old Age Home can be run in many ways such as Commercial, NGO, Personal/Retirement
Communities etc.

Commercial

Old Age Home can be run commercially. People who older than 55/60 years or after retirement he/she
can stay here with a certain amount of money. Payment can be taken on a daily/monthly/yearly basis.
Therefore, Old Age Home will run by the payment of its resident. Additionally, a group of people or a
public figure, or a social leader may take steps to start an Old Age Home commercially. Firstly, he/she
has to find a place where the Old Age Home is to be placed. Secondly, a group of employees like
chef/cleaner/staff are needed to hire in a monthly salary basis. Thirdly, he/she has to buy some furniture
for every room, kitchen, cabinet, entertainment, dining etc. Fourthly, for medical service he/she has to
hire an experienced doctor, he/she has to hire ambulance. Lastly, he/she has to advertise a lot about
his/her institution. However, things will not be done until the legislative procedure is done. Because of
the shortage of capital, unwillingness or enough courage and inspiration he/she may not be able to
continue it properly.

Drawbacks of Commercial Old Age Home

Old Age Home is fully dependent on the payment of its resident. More resident, more money to
run the institution. When no resident, no way to run it.
Land, labor, capital is the main challenge to be arranged here.
All of a sudden for the shortage of money could be threatened to its existence.
For an individual it is difficult to do all the legislative procedure to run an Old Age Home.
Hiring all the staff and employee is not an easy task at all.

Non-Government Organisation

An organization which is being run or financed by any big authority/organization/group of industries is

called Non-Government Organisation. Obviously the regarded authority/organization/group of industries
cannot run by any kind of help of the government. An Old Age Home likely to be run in this way under
the authorization of a big institution/organization/group of industries etc. A big organization/group of
industries may run or start an Old Age Home as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility.

Positive site of Non-Government Organisation

The institution does not obtain any sort of financial aid/assistance from outside either public,
private or govt., local or foreign.
The institution may have its own fish, rice and vegetable cultivation scheme.
Major portion of expenses of the Old Age Home are met outside of it.
Land, labor, capital are not any kind of issues here.
Hiring all the staff and employee is not so difficult task at all.

Drawbacks of Non-Government Organisation

The authority may show off its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) as a part of its
advertisement.
Any time any moment it can be shut down. Moreover, it is difficult to find the authority/owner of
the regarding Old Age Home and almost impossible to ask anything to them.
Staff and employee are not financed by the Old Age Home. Therefore, staff and employee will
have less affection and respect to their resident as well as to the Old Age Home. Moreover, staff
and employee may not sincere to their work.
It is almost difficult to contact or lodge any complain to the authority. Because, authority is
superior and doesn’t come forward.
Any kind of financing, repairing, modification is a dilatory process in these circumstances.
Because there may be a huge management hierarchy.

Personal/Retirement Communities

Personal or Retirement Communities can be another option to run an Old Age Home. Where an
individual or a group of friends/communities are eagerly wants to run an Old Age Home. The people who
are going to retire soon or thinking of doing some social welfare after their retirement are the most
suitable factor to run an Old Age Home.

Positive site of Personal/Retirement Communities

Manpower is the strongest part in this perspective. Where high profiled professor, doctor,
engineer, architect, businessman could be involved.
Their knowledge and techniques as well as their experiences of real world are the most key
elements.
Their pension or large amount of savings is the capital to run an Old Age Home
Doctor, Engineer, Professor, Architect, Businessman etc. can be the superior of anything if they
want to achieve. Because of their critical thinking, analytical skills, knowledge and obviously
their pension/savings can do anything easily if they combine them together.
Their pension/saving can bring land, labor, and capital too. However, Retirement Communities
are the all-rounder at all.
For starting any service/business, an institution needs engineer, doctor, professor, businessman,
architect etc. However, the Retirement Communities have it all at once. They don’t need to hire
or search anything new to start it.
An upcoming retire person or already retired person may know the feeling and thinking of
another retired person. Therefore, Retirement Communities can start and run an Old Age Home
Properly.
Retirement Communities can stay or pass their leisure time by staying in Old Age Home too.
They can run and monitor the institution at a time. Because it’s their second home.
The communities can take any kind of steps/decision as soon as possible because of their enough
time after retirement. It is like their another job.
Businessman can take over any monetary issue, architect can take over the building/apartment
issue, and doctor can see patient and engineer can take necessary steps according to their
knowledge in Old Age Home. However, experiences from their whole professional life are the
main strengths which have to apply in this institution.
They can run this institution commercially and as well as personally. They can stay and pass
their leisure and can earn money at a time.

Drawbacks of Personal/Retirement Communities

Sometime it would be difficult to contact/manage the retired person under one roof. Their
profession might make them scattered around the world.
After the retirement, many people don’t want to work or think about something new.
By getting old, people are gradually lost their mind and temper to start a new thing. Inspiration
and motivation may not be able to work on them.
