REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE

According to Espina (2020) on its study about lesson on the go instruction

using electronic supplementary learning material based on the most essential

learning competencies on earth and life science implies that the use of printed

SLM using LOG as intervention had enhanced the mastery level of the learners

thus this study supports the present study that using an intervention have an

effect to the academic achievement of the learners.

It also stated to the study of Villones (2018) about the use of SIM as a strategy

in the academic achievement of learners on selected topic on earth science

wherein the use of SIM as a strategy in the teaching process has better impact

to the learners thus this study also implies that teachers should adopt and use

differentiated SIM in the teaching process to achieve better results to the

academic achievement of the learners.

In the study of Cordova et. Al (2019) on the use of SIM to help develop the least

mastered skills or competencies of the English subject states that using SIM

increases the academic performance of the learners after the posttest result,

this suggest that the use of SIM to the least mastered competencies has great

effect to the level of academic achievement of the learners.

According to Aranada et al 2019 on their study about the integration of SIM to

the low achieving learners states that there is a significant increase in the

academic performance of the learners that utilizes the teaching-learning kit as

intervention, this concludes that science teachers should develop SIM and use

in the teaching and learning process to enhance the learning capabilities of the

learners and to remediate the low achieving learners, with this it implies to the

present study that SIM is a very helpful to remediate the least mastered

competencies with the use of SIM.

Based on the study of Gabucan (2020) on his study about the use of SIM as a

mode instruction in teaching global warming offers that knowledge and skills

should be innovate and make it more creative to get the full attention of the

learners with this it boosts the interest of the learners towards the lesson

proper, in line with the present study using SIM in a digital manner could

make learners more engage towards the lesson and enhance the academic

performance.

From the study of Dacumos 2016 about the secondary teachers perspective in

the utilization of SIM in science subject has stated that there are two major

themes of SIM was utilized as Re-teaching tool in which the purpose is for

mastery of the least grasped topics and lessons and abridgement tool in which

the materials should emphasize on simplification and summarization of the

concepts with his concepts of SIM the impact promotes autonomous learning

and memory enhancement aside from this learners become constructors of

their own knowledge, in relation to the present study it could contribute to the

idea wherein learners learns best with the use of SIM and promotes active

learning in developing least mastered competencies in earth and life subject.

Furthermore in the content of reading based SIM in science by Acuna (2015) in

which conducted to develop CARB-SIM to enhance the least masted skill and

reading skill of the learners in science for the past 5 years, from the findings of

the study the integration of reading skills in the development of CARB-SIM

facilitate the learning in science concepts in which learners are more engage in

the activities and aid science concepts developing the interest of the learners

towards the lesson, with this idea it enables the present study to have a better

and wide range of idea to make the development of least mastered

competencies easily and helpful to encourage teachers to develop SIMS like

CARB to help cope the least mastered competencies in science.

In the level of science achievement as basis for the production of SIM by

Verano (2020) stated that the science teachers should develop, produce and

utilize strategic intervention materials to the least mastered skills or

competencies to bridge the gap and help learners to develop mastery of

knowledge and skill as also stated to recommend that the SIM reproduction
can be done under the LRMDS in coordination with the science masters

teachers. In this regard to the present study, it gives the idea if the result

suggests positive and has effect to the performance of the learners that use SIM

in the least mastered competencies of the subject earth and life science is

effective and therefore there is a need to develop, produce and utilize SIM in

the subject.

According to the study of Salviejo (2014) on the SIM based instruction learning

approach and students performance in chemistry it was said that learners who

were adopted to SIM enhances the performance of the students in chemistry

thus it also tells that learners who were expose to the use of SIM finds the

lesson enjoyable, interesting and contributed a positive attitude towards

chemistry the study also concluded that teachers should provide seminars and

workshops to the principle of Sim construction for better improvement and

development in the teaching and learning process, in connection to the present

study it entails that using SIM is very helpful in the learning approach towards

the learners because it could make learners find the lesson interesting and

enjoyable.

In the study conducted by Herrera (2016) on the efficacy of SIM to the

academic achievement of learners in the physics subject stated that after

introducing SIM towards the learners there is an improvement in the level of

performance by the learners towards the subject it is also concluded that there

is a significant increase of score of the learners in the subject and it has

significant contribution to improving least mastered competencies. In line with

the present study it is a great help that the use of SIM significantly increase

the level of competence, understanding, knowledge and skill of the learners

specially in developing the least mastered competencies.
