Project Consultant, Kabul-in-Exile

Goethe-Institut e.V. is the world-wide cultural institute of the Federal Republic of Germany.
We promote the study of the German language abroad and actively foster international
cultural cooperation. Further, our mission is to convey a comprehensive image of Germany
through information about its cultural, social and political life.

The Simurgh Centre is an initiative of the Goethe-Institut / Max Mueller Bhavan New Delhi.
It provides a cultural space for collaborations and conversations between the Afghan
community, mostly those living in Delhi, with German and Indian artists and practitioners.
We seek to support, explore and share such work and create connections with audiences
and discourse across the world. Our name derives from the mythical bird ‘Simurgh’ that
serves as a symbol of creativity and connection.

Goethe-Institut India is looking for a dedicated colleague as a “Project Consultant” (fixed Goethe-Institut

term of one year with the option to extend) to begin January 1, 2023 in the framework of 3; Kasturba Gandhi Marg

Your tasks will primarily include:

• Working with already existing partners of the institute, as well as actively seeking
new connections within the local Afghan community in New Delhi.
• Management and programming of the project space, including but not limited to
dealing with artists, partners, designers, technicians, administrators etc.
• Planning and executing cultural events and workshops in the space on a regular
basis.
• Providing technical, logistical and networking support to artists from the Afghan
community in Delhi.
• Overseeing execution of contracts with partners and artists.
• Liaison with different institutions in the field of culture.
• Actively working on the publicity of different programmes, this would include
liaison with the press and media, social media and networking with partners as
per the specific requirements of the project.
• Working on the administrative tasks related to the space and the project and
coordinating all requirements with the programme department of Goethe-Institut
India.
• Designing and executing collaborations between German, Afghan and Indian
artists.
You have the following prerequisites:
• University degree or equivalent education.
• Willingness to take on responsibility, excellent communication and networking
skills.
• 2 to 4 years’ experience working in cultural project management and
administrative work.
• Knowledge of the current scenario in Afghanistan and developments in the field
of culture in Afghanistan and India.
• Good knowledge of English (spoken and written), basic knowledge of Hindi & Urdu.
• Knowledge of Dari & Pashto is an asset but not mandatory.
• Good organizational skills.
• Well versed with MS office, basic knowledge of design applications is an asset.
• Good organizational skills.
• Willingness to take initiative and work in a team environment.
• Willingness to work irregular hours (some weekends and evenings).
• Willingness to learn German.

Please note that the job training will need to take place in December.
