Semi- Detailed Lesson Plan

In Health -6
Integration: MATH

I- OBJECTIVES:
At the end of the lesson the pupils are expected to;
 Identifies through conducting the relationship of the first and the last
measure in an incomplete measure

 Illustrates the concept of rhythm by applying notes and rests, rhythmic

patterns and time signature
 Creates rhythmic patterns using half, quarter, eight and sixteenth notes
and rest, in 2/4,3/4, and 4/4
 Appreciates the importance of key time signature in music
II- CONTENT:
Conducting patterns of the time signatures

III- LEARNING RESOURCES:

A. References: Work text in Music, Arts and Physical Education “RADIANCE”
B. Textbook pages: p. 18
C. Learning Materials: Laptop, projector, pictures, photocopy of songs, and
visual aid.

IV- PROCEDURES:
A. Reviewing Previous Lesson or Presenting the New Lesson
Do the following:
1. Ask the pupils about the Time Signature.
2. Let the pupils conduct the 2/4, ¾. 4/4 time signatures
3. Tap the rhythm of 2/4,3/4, and 4/4.
B. Establishing s purpose for the lesson

- Ask the following Question:

- Describe the following objects
- What do these things have in common?
- Can you still fix these things? How?
- Aside from these objects, can you name other things which are
broken?

C. Presenting examples/ instances of the lesson

- in music, measure can also be called broken. Broken measure is also
known as incomplete measure.
-a measure is incomplete if the first measure or the last measure of the
music piece contains the number of beats which is less than what time
signature requires.
- To balance the incomplete measures, combine the number of beats of
the first and the last measure.
Example:

Ask the pupils the following:

- What is the time signature in the staff?
(Ans. 4/4)
- What is the note on the first measure?
(Ans. Quarter note)
- How many beats are there in the first measure? (Ans. 1 beat.) How
about the second measure? (Ans. 4 beats) How about the third
measure? (Ans. 4 beats)
- How about the fourth measure? (Ans. 3 beats)
- What have you noticed in the first measure and the last measure?
(Answer. The number of beats in the first measure and the last
measure is incomplete.)
- What will you do to complete the measure?
(Ans. Combine the number of beats of the first measure and the last
measure.)
-Let’s do mathematics, let’s add the number of beats of the first
measure is 1 beat because it is a quarter note plus the last measure
dotted half note is 3 because half note receives the value of 2 then
the dot receives the value of the note by one half so it receives 1
beat, 1 plus 3 equals 4 number of beats
So the measure is complete.
D. Discussing new concepts and practicing new skill # 1

Do the following:
a. Sing the song” Pilipinas kong Mahal”.
b. What is the time signature in the song?( ans. ¾ time signature)
c. Conduct the beat.
d. Identify what part of the beat the first measure started.( 1st ,
2nd, or 3rd). ( ans. It starts on the third beat)
E. Discussing new concepts and practicing new skills # 2
Ask the following:
1. What is the message of the song?
2. Is the song start the complete measure?
3. How many beats are there in the first measure?
4. Does it contain the exact number of beats?
5. on what beat does the song start?
6. How many beat are there in the last measure?
7. How to complete the measure?

F. Developing mastery (lead to formative assessment 3)

Group activity
Directions: Create at least 2 broken measure using notes and rests.
Group 1: 2/4 and ¾ time signature.
Group 2: 2/4 and 4/4 time signature

G. Finding the practical application of concepts and skills in daily living

In our lives we do not begin or start our career at the same
time. Others will be successful earlier than you but the important is all of us
will become successful in different ways. . Like music at first it’s a broken
measure or incomplete measure but in the end the incomplete measure will
become complete.

H. Making Generalizations and Abstraction about the Lesson.

In conducting music the preparatory beat is important. Some music starts
with a broken or incomplete measure. The missing beats in the first measure
are usually completed in the last measure.

I. EVALUATION
Directions: Identify the measure as complete or incomplete. Write your
answer directly on your notebook.

J. ASSIGNMENTS:
Look for other song with broken measure. Be ready to share them with
the class.

Thank you! And God Bless You…
