Our business “The Study Bean” all started when we were discussing between friends what it would be like if there was
a study café existing here in Zamboanga City. We were in the library studying for our final’s, our destination during that
time was the library and the ambiance of the library was so cold and quiet that within 30 minutes of studying we already
felt sleepy, and if we were to relocate to the classroom people would constantly disturb us while we were concentrating
on reviewing, and lastly if we were to go home our siblings and parents would always order us to do chores or favors to
help out in the house. With these scenarios it would be almost impossible to accomplish any studying. Our drive into
wanting an environment in where we would be able to have our own personal space without anyone interrupting was
always our dream, and we were able to make it come true by having our business which is now called “The Study
Bean”.
Since our café is all about comfort, we would offer different services in which the comfort is accustomed to the needs of
the customer. We have different rooms with different rates, if the customer would opt for an upgrade on their setting,
they would just add an additional 50pesos. Our first type of room is the “Classroom Setting”, in our “Classroom Setting”
it is an open space in which the customers would have to share a big table with a small divider so that they would be
guided in knowing how big their space would be, we thought of this type of setting because we tried to think on different
kinds of environment the customer would be accustomed to, he or she may be motivated to see other students studying
as well, which is why we thought of this setting. Our second service is called the “Library Setting”, the customers would
have their own table and the setting is just like how you would in a library some are facing the wall while the others are
facing at the back of the students to avoid any communications that could lead into distractions. Now our last setting
which is the “Harvard Setting”, this is the most luxurious setting that we offer out of the three ones, because in that
section of the building we offer dividers and compartments in which the student would be able to personalized their
space during their time, we also offer individuals light for every table that we have, it’s the customer’s choice whether
they want to use the one provided by the company or the one they brought from their homes.
Our food area, since we are open from 6am­10pm in the evening, we offer customers food that could help them
replenish their energy. Our menu consists of only 5 Snacks and Beverages. The free coffee can be claimed once you
have done paying for your setting in the café, it can be claimed at the entrance. We have decided to only sell at least 5
snacks in the café, because when customers are to go the café they are expected to study right away and not have a
full course meal in the venue, we also thought that it would take to long for the customers to consume their food thus
forgetting to continue studying. And the snacks there are not really to fill up your stomach, the food is just available to
provide them energy to resume studying, of course other than coffee we also offer water to provide hydration.
Our location is located near four schools, which consists of Tetuan Central School, Universidad de Zamboanga, ICAS
(Immaculate Conception Archdiocesan School), and lastly City High. We’ve decided to place our location near these
schools because they satisfy our target market, which are the students from each school. The owners of the business
consist of Halley Gatinao, Danrieve Ibhrahim, Michael Guerrero, and lastly Job Grajo. Our chosen business form is
partnership, just like any business form they have their own pro’s and con’s but we felt like it was the most suitable type
for our business.
