Finally, my partner and I, are going to talk about

one of the most typical festivals in Japan that is

the Snow Festival.

Fun Facts

Now, I’m going to talk about some fun facts of the festival.

One, is that February is the coldest time of the year there, so the average temperature is -3.4
degrees celsius, and it snows often that is why you'll need to dress warmly.

Another fun fact is that on average it takes to walk around each site from 60 to 90 minutes.

Besides that, the Snow Festival usually gathers about 400 sculptures of snow and ice. The vast
majority are located in Odori Park.

Another fun fact is that sometimes it doesn’t snow and, therefore, there is good visibility, where
you can enjoy a good view of the entire Odori park from the observatory of the Sapporo TV
Tower, located at one end of the park.

And finally, the snow festival also has an official character, it’s a cute snowman character but
he doesn’t have a name yet.

Curiosities

Lastly, I’m going to talk about some curiosities of the festival.

In the Snow festival the Yuki Matsuri is known for its spectacular snow and ice sculptures,
some of which can reach 15 meters in height.

Also, it’s held in three different locations: Odori Park, the Susu Kino area, and the Tsu-
dome area.

The Odori park is approximately 1.5km long, with an area of 7.8 hectares, extending from Odori
Nishi 1 chome to Odori Nishi 12 chome.

Another curiosity is that as this festival is celebrated in winter, it is recommended to eat

Seafood as these taste better in winter.

Finally, it’s said that the area of the Tsu-dome is especially dedicated to families with children,
since during the Snow Festival big snow slides and specific areas are built to do snow rafting'.
