a. Who is/are the major characters that played an important role in the story?
Gio finally had his first taste of Laksa – a rice noodle soup in a crispy coconut curry sauce. He found the flavors intense
since like most Filipinos, he was not used to spicy foods.
Latif sent his mother’s recipe to Gio and the latter began cooking Malaysian food in his home.

strong western tradition. The modern Filipino culture developed through influence from Chinese traders, Spanish
conquistadors, and American Rulers.

published by the economist intelligence unit.
Reasons why the cost of living the Philippines is inordinately expensive. First is due to our impact dependence.
Unfortunately, the country’s manufacturing sector has eroded so severely in recent years that we now import the
majority of our needs. This include basic food products (including rice), consumer goods, construction materials,
machinery and equipment.
In order to meet increased consumer demand, many businesses are attempting to expand their geographic
footprint and extend their value chain to an international level. The bottom line on globalization is that it creates an
opportunity for businesses to expand revenue streams, diversify risk and increase brand equity. The bottom line on

2. How is the Philippines central to economic globalization?
The evidence suggests that globalization has a positive effect on the country’s economic growth and employment.
Globalization has been very effective in the Philippines. There have been changes in the country such as more labor and
more companies that have emerged to help economy. Ironically, the Philippines is a country that is not extremely
export-dependent, meaning that drastic effects of instability on both export earnings as economic growth associated
with economic stocks are annulled.

1. Yes, I agree “Gold is a way of going long on fear” it means gold is a very useful investment during periods of instability
and high inflation. Gold is also considered a good hedge against the risk of inflation because the rising of cost of goods
and services.
