A REPORT ON INDUSTRIAL VISIT
About the Company

Mu Sigma is an American decision sciences firm that primarily offers data

analytics services. The firm's name is derived from the statistical terms "Mu (μ)" and
"Sigma (σ)" which symbolize the mean and the standard deviation, respectively, of
a probability distribution. Mu Sigma has seen a lot of recognition in the past few years
and the company has also won several awards. In the year 2011 Mu Sigma was
ranked #386 in Inc. 5000. Inc. 5000 is a list of the fastest growing private companies
in the United States. Besides this, the founder Rajaram himself has won several
awards for the hard work and dedicated efforts he has put into the creation and
running of this organization. Rajaram received Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of The
Year India Award 2012 in the services category award. In the year 2013 he was also
ranked #37 on the Fortune Magazine 40 under 40 lists.

“We love to introspect on the industry and our

work. Our Founder Dhiraj leads the charge with
his views on change, complexity, consciousness,
and the business landscape of the future.”

History of the Company

Mu Sigma was founded by Dhiraj Rajaram, a former strategy consultant at Booz Allen
Hamilton and PricewaterhouseCoopers, in 2004. In 2008, Mu Sigma raised its first

institutional investment round of $30 million from FT Ventures (now FTV Capital). In April
2011, the company raised an additional $25 million from Sequoia Capital. In December
2011, the company announced a $108 million round of financing from Sequoia and
growth equity investor General Atlantic. In February 2013, Mu Sigma received an
investment of $45 million from MasterCard, which placed the company over the $1 billion
(Rs. 5,400 crores) milestone.

In early 2016, the company was sued by Aon Corp founder Pat Ryan, who discussed that
Mu Sigma lowballed its own growth prospects in order to buy back Ryan's stake in the
company.[2]

In October 2016, after the Ambiga Subramanian resignation, who was serving as CEO at
that time, Dhiraj Rajaram assumed the role of CEO.

Competitors
Mu Sigma’s direct competitors include companies like Fractal, ZS Associates, Axtria ,
Tredence , WNS, etc. which are other analytics companies working on the BPO model.
Apart from them, in-house teams of companies like OLA, Mastercard, CITI, Amazon, etc.
