LAB 04: Introduction to Multisim software

Objective:
 To study how to construct circuit in multisim.
 To study how to analyze a circuit.
 To study how to simulate a circuit.

Tools:
 Multisim software.
 Computer to run the software.

Multisim:
Multisim software integrates industry-standard SPICE simulation with an interactive
schematic environment to instantly visualize and analyze electronic circuit behavior. Its intuitive
interface helps educators reinforce circuit theory and improve retention of theory throughout
engineering curriculum. By adding powerful circuit simulation and analyses to the design flow,
Multisim helps researchers and designers reduce printed circuit board (PCB) prototype iterations
and save development costs.

Parts of Multisim:

 Standard toolbar.

 Main toolbar.
 Simulation toolbar.

 View toolbar.

 Component toolbox.
Procedure:
To construct, analyze and simulate a circuit in multisim. We need to follow the
instructions given below:

 First open the Multisim software. Then a new project is opened by default.
 To make a simple circuit. We need following components: AC power source, Led,
Switch, Resistor and a ground.
 Now to place a component press CTRL+W on keyboard and a list of components are
shown on the screen. To select a component double click on the component name and
drage and drop the component on circuit.

 Drag and drop all the components on the circuit. Then connect the components by
attaching the ends of each component.
 To rotate a component press CTRL+R on keyboard.

 Now to simulate the project press F5.

Instruments:
 Function generator and oscilloscope. Function generator generates different wave forms
and oscilloscope simulates the wave forms on screen.

 Multimeter is for measuring voltage, Current and resistance.

 Watt meter for measuring power.

Analysis:
In simulation tab go to analysis and then go to transient analysis. Then choose the measurement
u want to analyze.
