MtE-321L Mechanical Vibrations Lab, 5th Semester
OBJECTIVES:
General overview to Mechanical Vibration Lab
Introduction to equipment
Grading criteria
Introduction:
vibration, periodic back-and-forth motion of the particles of an elastic body or medium,
commonly resulting when almost any physical system is displaced from its equilibrium
condition and allowed to respond to the forces that tend to restore equilibrium
Theory:
What are Vibration Sensors:
The vibration sensor is also called a piezoelectric sensor. These sensors are flexible devices
which are used for measuring various processes. This sensor uses the piezoelectric effects
while measuring the changes within acceleration, pressure, temperature, force otherwise
strain by changing to an electrical charge.
Vibration sensors:
(SW-420)
Figure 1 SW420
The Grove - Vibration Sensor (SW-420) is a high sensitivity non-directional vibration sensor.
When the module is stable, the circuit is turned on and the output is high. When the
movement or vibration occurs, the circuit will be briefly disconnected and output low.

Grove – Piezo Vibration Sensor:
Piezo sensors are flexible devices that generate electric charge when they're stressed. This
characteristic makes piezo an ideal solution for low-power flex, touch, and vibration sensing.
In more advanced applications, piezo can be the foundation for energy harvesting.
