1. (a) (i) Evaluate ( ) + 0.5 x 3.5 (3 marks)

(b) The average mark for 25 students in a mathematics test was 48.

(i) What was the total marks scored by the 25 students? (2 marks)

(ii) A student who scored 84 marks was absent. What would be the
average of the remaining students? (3 marks)

2. (a) The shape below consists of a square and a circle of diameter 28 cm.
Calculate the area of the shaded region (Use = )

(b) The area of a triangle is 36 cm2. If its height is 9 cm, calculate

3. (a) Factorize completely:

(b) Using a compass and ruler ONLY, construct an equilateral triangle with side
6 cm. All construction lines must be clearly shown. (5 marks)

4. Jake desires to purchase a house valued at $3,000,000. The bank


approves his mortgage with a 12% deposit and interest.

(a) What is the deposit? (2 marks)

(c) Interest is charged on the outstanding amount at a rate of 5% per annum


for 30 years. What is the interest payable? (3 marks)

(d) Calculate Jake’s monthly payment. (4 marks)

6. The diagram below represents a ladder AB resting against a vertical wall BC.
The ladder is 5 metres long. It makes an angle of 600 with the ground.

(b) Calculate the vertical height up the wall that the ladder reaches. (3 marks)

(c) A wooden plank 12 metres long just reaches to the top of a low wall.
The wall is 9 metres high.

(ii) Calculate the horizontal distance between the base of the wall and the plank.
