1. A thermometer behaves as first order system has initial temperature 70 oF and is suddenly
placed in a liquid which is maintained at 3000F. The thermometer indicates 200 oF after time
intervals of 3s. , respectively. Estimate the time constant for the thermometer.

2. A thermometer has time constant of 10s and behaves as first order system. Its initially at a
temperature 30oC and then suddenly subjected to a surrounding temperature of 120 oC .
Calculate the 90% rise time and the time to attain 99% of the steady-state temperature.

3. A small temperature sensor operates as first order system and is stated to have a time constant
of 0.1 s. if it’s initially at a temperature of 100oC and suddenly exposed to an environment
temperature of 15oC, how long will it take to indicate a temperature of 17oC?

4. A 10µF capacitor is charged to a potential of 100 V. At time zero it is discharged through a 1-

MΩ resistor. Write an equation representing the change in the capacitor voltage with time.

5. The rise time for a certain RC circuit is to be 0.003ms. Determine suitable values of R and C
to accomplish this.

6. The two-terminal device has an internal resistance of 5000 Ω. A meter with impedance of
20,000Ω is connected to the output to perform a voltage measurement. What is the percent
error in determination of the internal voltage?

7. The device in Prob. 6 has an internal voltage of 100 V. Calculate the power output for the
loading conditions indicated. What would be the maximum power output? What power output
would result for a load resistance of 1000?

8. A 2Kg mass is suspended from a simple spring. The deflection caused by this mass is 0.5 cm.
What is the natural frequency of the system?

9. A 10Kg turntable is placed on rubber supports such that a deflection of 2cm. results from the
weight. Calculate the natural frequency of such a system.
