Problem
Iligan, the city of majestic waterfalls, is also home to the
Lake Lanao Agus River System. Its elevation is around
700m above sea level making it a natural reservoir. Its
only exit is to the Agus River, which flows northward into
Iligan Bay. There are seven hydroelectric power plant
sites along the river system, of which, Agus 6 and 7 hy-
droelectric power plant sites are the two biggest sites.

The upslope of the access road going to these two

power plants are characterized by rocky slopes with lush
vegetations. During the recent typhoons that brought
heavy rains in the area, falling rocks and landslide oc-
curred that prevented access to the power plants. This
incident paralyzed the operation and employees would
not want to go to their respective offices due to fear of
similar events.

Solution
The Owner (National Power Corp.), in coordination with
the General Contractor (Altronics), agreed that Maccaf-
erri’s simple drapery system for rockfall protection using
PVC-coated Rockfall Nets was the cheapest and ideal
solution to the problem.
