products/waste streams. Waste management forms an integral part of Romni pollution
prevention and cleaner production processes.

4.1. Waste management Act of Botswana was established on 04 th September 1998 to
make provision of planning, facilitating and implementation of advanced systems for
regulating the management of controlled waste in order to prevent harm to human,

4.2. The Public Health Act of 30th January 1981 was established to make notification of
certain diseases compulsory and to control such diseases; to make provision
regarding diseases subject to the International Health Regulation; to prevent the
spread of smallpox; to prevent the introduction of diseases into Botswana; to control
advertisements and publications concerning venereal diseases; to regulate sanitation
and housing; to provide for the protection of foodstuff and water supplies; to
regulate the use of cemeteries and generally to make provision of public health.
4.3. Our Company motto is to be the best and thus we strive for that in all aspects of our
day to day activities. The list below is a list of guidelines that guide our organization.
4.4. We promote the waste management strategy and public health act of Botswana by
adhering to the following standards;

5. Polluter pays principle:

5.1. We believe as an organisation that the waste we create becomes our responsibility in
terms of disposal. Our organisation has privatised the above activity as waste
management company collects waste and we pay for services provided.

6. Reuse of product:
6.1. We should not throw out or discard all the waste we create as some of it could be
reused again. There is a practice of selection of waste. For example a bottle could
either be used as a container or recycled thereby minimising the waste we produce.
The government of Botswana is faced with a major problem as Landfills are filling
up at an alarming rate because there is no separation and selection of reusable waste
practiced by most people.
6.2. Sponsor Investments promotes separation of waste at source and we have achieved
that by having different colour receptacles for different waste types. For example we
have receptacles for paper, tins cardboard boxes and bottles. Our waste will be
collected by a waste management company

7. Institute appropriate sanitary measures for the promotion of Public Health:

7.1. We strive to ensure that implementation of sanitation and waste management project
is strategically designed to derive maximum benefits at minimum cost, accompanied
by effective cost recovery policies.
7.2. We strive to have balance between economic gain and environmental protection so
that there is synergy in the aspects.
7.3. We encourage good hygiene practices and high level of cleanliness in our
organization
7.4. We promote health education in terms of education and through adverts.

Different streams and types of waste are managed appropriately. The waste management
process involves collection, handling, temporary storage, treatment and final disposal. The
management of each waste stream depends on the hazardous nature of waste and legal and

summary of how each waste stream is managed

9. GENERAL WASTE
General waste is mainly controlled through the implementation of 3R’s of waste management
i.e. reduce, reuse and/or recycle. Waste separation at source makes the process of recovery
and recycling easier. All the offices are provided with separate waste bins for tins/cans, paper
and food leftovers to ensure that waste separation is done at source. Despite implementation
of 3R’s remainders are sent to the landfill for final disposal. Therefore general waste is made
up of recyclable, reusable, and waste that can be land filled.
