De Ocampo was a Filipino


ophthalmologist regarded as "the Father of Modern
Philippine Ophthalmology". He was the founder of The
Eye Bank of the Philippines. In 1926, he graduated
from Bulacan High School as a Valedictorian of his
class.
He was the first Filipino to create a US-
manufactured corneal dissector named the De
Ocampo Corneal Dissector (1956), designed to split
parts of eye’s cornea and to cut such minute
interconnections. This instrument was later
manufactures in the United States and widely utilized
in different countries.
De Ocampo Eye Hospital (1952) and the first
Filipino President of the Philippine Ophthalmological
Society (1958) were founded in the Philippines as the
first eye hospital. He received the Jose Rizal medal in
Ophthalmology from the Asia Pacific Academy of
Ophthalmology and was appointed the Philippines'
National Scientist in 1982.
Diosdado "Dado" P Banatao Jr. is an engineer, inventor,
entrepreneur, aviator, and philanthropist from Iguig, Cagayan Valley,
known by many as the "Bill Gates of the Philippines." He is the
founder of the Dado Banatao Educational Foundation, the Philippine
Construction Foundation and the Banatao Filipino-American Fund, as
well as the founder and managing partner of Tallwood Venture
Capital, a highly profitable Silicon Valley group.

He developed the PC chipset and the Windows Graphics


acceleration chip in his early days, which can be found today on any
personal computer. The first 10-Mbit Ethernet CMOS with data link
control and transceiver chip silicon coupler, the first system logic
chip set for IBM 's PC-XT and PC-AT, and the idea of the local bus and
the first Windows Graphics personal computer acceleration chip

It was then that the work of his life began in earnest. Dado co-
founded three of his own after acquiring expertise in various
technology businesses: Mostron in 1984, Chips & Innovations in
1985, and S3 in 1989. Dado clearly studied and innovated as he faced
defeat with Mostron. By the late 1990s, S3 was at the forefront of
the market for graphics processors, while Processors & Innovations
was sold for $430 million to Intel. In the 2000s, he worked as
chairman of many data companies, such as market pioneer Inphi,
apart from operating Tallwood.

As a tireless pioneer, Dado has received the prestigious Ellis


Island Medal of Honor, awarded to exemplary US citizens. The
Philippine government has also named him the country’s first Special
Envoy of Science and Technology.
