PROCEDURE
Introduction Time
Set the objective, Typing:
purpose, interest
Students will come into class, find their assigned seats, and log
onto their computers. Students will begin the class by
practicing typing for 10 minutes on typing.com. The students 10
have a 1-minute typing test that they will complete the next minutes
day so any students who would like to practice taking typing
tests may do so.
Introduction to Unit on Internet Web Searches:
Once students are done typing, I will give a brief presentation
on the upcoming unit on Internet Web Searches. I will explain
that students will be completing 3 assignments during this
unit: a scavenger hunt on random information, a scavenger 5
hunt on google maps, and a research project on an animal of minutes
their choice. I will give the students a timeline of the activities
we will be completing and when they should have them
completed by.
Body Time
Scaffold the steps to Internet Web Searches:
the end goal
I will ask the students to open Google as we will be using
Google to search for information today. After all students have
opened Google, I will ask them to copy the search I am doing
on the board: how many moons does Jupiter have? I will walk
around the classroom and ensure all students have typed in
the correct question and have been able to find the answer. I
will then ask students to search independently what year was
YouTube created. I will explain that they don’t need to include
the full question to find the answer (for example year YouTube 6
created will also bring up the right answer as those are the key minutes
terms). When they have the answer, I will ask them to raise
their hands. Once all students have raised their hands and I
will ask them to chorally respond what the answer is. (Answer
is 2005). As one last practice, I will ask students to search
address of Wilson Middle School. Again, I will ask students to
raise their hands when they have found the answer. I will walk
around and observe if every student was able to find the
address. I will ask students to give me thumbs-up or thumbs-
down on how they feel about searching the internet to find
answers. If any students have a thumb down, I will do another
search, but if all students have a thumbs up then we will do a
Kahoot where they will continue practicing internet web
searches.

Kahoot:
I will have the link to Kahoot on teams that students will click
10-15
to bring them to the Kahoot website. I will have the game pin
minutes
on the board. I will remind students of my expectations for
playing Kahoot.
1. The name you choose must be appropriate
2. You must remain in your seats for the game
3. If you need help raise your hand or ask the person
sitting next to you
4. Please whisper as to not distract the others around you
who are trying to focus
For the Kahoot students will be given a question that they
must Google to find the answer. After they have found the
answer, they will click the correct response on Kahoot. I will
emphasize that students should not be guessing for this
activity.
Differentiation: For students who find typing difficult, I will
upload a word document with the questions so they can copy
and paste the questions.

Scavenger Hunt Assignment: 10-15

I will pull up the scavenger hunt activity on Teams and explain minutes
that students will have the next few classes to complete the
scavenger hunt by performing internet searches to answer the
questions. When they find the answer to a question, they will
type their response on the Word document. They have the
rest of class to work on the scavenger hunt.
Differentiation: Students who are challenged by typing can
copy and paste the questions and the answers they find on the
Internet.
Closure Time
Just one Students will save their progress on their scavenger hunt so
Solidify that they can continue to work on it tomorrow. After they 3

have saved their progress, they will log out of the computers minutes
and tuck in their chairs and line up for dismissal.
