Music: Advantages and disadvantages of listening to it.
Is this the real life? Is this just fantasy? Caught in a landside, no escape from reality… This way starts one of the best songs ever in rock genre, its name is Bohemian Rhapsody, in the voice of Freddy Mercury, the legendary musician for excellence, it´s impossible to forget the lyrics, even If you are studying is “the propellent media”, but, does it really help or distract you of your responsilbilities? Can music help you feel better or not? In what way is music healthy? Do you really understand what music means to society and what it has brought? Would music solve problems? Well, as an advantage I firstly must say that studying with music in the background provides lots of benefits. Many clinical studies prove that music stimulates areas of the prefrontal lobe, which are related to attention, concentration and satisfaction, also the fact of listening to music activates the frontal lobe area too, the responsible for improving your ability to concentrate, it ´s possible to feel that the information flows faster and that problems are solved more easily, people feel that like a breath. Secondly, the areas of the temporal lobe are stimulated, whose mission is to raise mathematical and language skills. It helps to combat pre-exam stress, which promotes relaxation and retention of information. For example, classical music makes it easier to master a new language, Mozart compositions are likely the most chosen ones to the topic (the famous Mozart Effect). For instance, listening to slower pieces by Verdi, Beethoven's 9th Symphony, as well as Puccini significantly lowers blood pressure or soft music, like bossa nova, also helps to encourages the brain to stay alert and controls sleep too, in this case the mixture of samba and jazz, ´cause that’s bossa nova, it´s more than a style of music, it contributes to the construction of more humane and inclusive societies, transmits significant values for each woman and man and offers unique opportunities for mutual understanding. Thirdly, if I have to talk about neurological items I hardly have to explain that studies carried out on patients with mental illnesses such as Parkinson's, Alzheimer's and other illnesses that affect the human mind have concluded that the use of classical music as an aid or complement to treatment is positive. It´s used as a tool that favors the willingness of patients to do other memory strengthening exercises, or it is used as a technique to awaken neural connections, and that´s awesome! Music has the ability to reduce pain by releasing endorphins that act as natural pain relievers. It can also divert attention away from encouraging pain and relaxation, while exercising, music can have a significant impact on exercise performance, it diverts your attention from repetitive exercises so the feeling of fatigue, exhaustion and boredom are avoided. Music can also act as a stimulant that can increase your performance. The connection with our body is unique. However, disadvantages of studying with music don´t go unnoticed. Normally, the rhythm of the song and the heartbeat are synchronized, so if the song is fast it won´t be easy to relax and studying becomes more difficult. Songs in major keys express more joy, enthusiasm, and makes you a person unfocused of their tasks, who just wants to dance and sing out loud with respect for nothing, the genres that impels this can be punk, hard rock, metal, specially the contemporaneous bands like Misfits, Green Day , Social Distortion or the most known band of the ages, The Ramones, regardless of the content of the song; while songs in minor keys express sadness, the problem with this is that you´re prone to develop depression if you listen sad music all the time, by misunderstanding the real meaning of the lyric, such as blues, for instance Al Kooper from the seventies band Blood, Sweat and Tears, shoegaze, or sadcore, ambient like Burzum (more instrumental with norwegian style. If you listen to a song with lyrics, people are likely to focus more on it than on what they are studying. In addition to this, you become a multitasking person, losing concentration, as the brain conflicts. In this sense, listening to music while studying is harmful because the brain must split into two actions. Besides this, music is still a noise and all noise causes is an alteration in the brain that can affect your productivity. Most people who listen to music do so through electronic devices such as players, mobile devices, etc. By keeping so much musical information on your device, you lose a lot of time selecting those songs that you like, you begin to hum the song and lose concentration. When studying, you use memory that is based mainly on three pillars: reading, attention and fixation. Having said that, if you study listening to music, your lessons will become much more superficial. To summarize, although I can mention a lot of things related to music, pros and cons of working, studying with it, including songs of certain genres that marked very important times in the history of the musical culture of the world, it ´s firmly important to understand that music will always be part of your daily routine, starting from the song of the birds to the sound of silence, in many ways it will be necessary, the human body is music at all, because of the heart bits! I partfully agree that the way in which you relate to music will depend on the education you have had, collegiate or not, and it will be your sole responsibility to use it as the appropriate means to generate inclusion and to get all what you want. Personally, I love music, international as you could read, I made of it the course to live my life based on the meaning of some important songs that deeply marked me through the years, old ones that represent how I feel, how I decide to do something or not, the social content of some of them really moves me. I consider myself a melancholic, bohemian, and romantic girl, so you can imagine the genres I hear, I´m only flesh and blood, but I could be anything that you demand, said the song, but that´s another roll. Ending, make good music part of your life always, you won´t regret!
