The Colosseum is an oval amphitheater in the center of the city of Rome,
Italy. It is the largest ancient amphitheater ever built in the world.
It was built between 70 and 72 AD by the emperor Vespasian as a gift for
the Roman people to enjoy wrestling and gladiatorial competitions.
This massive building measured approximately 189 by 156 meters as an
area.It is 48m high including eighty entrance doors. The Colosseum could
hold more than 50,000 spectators at its maximum capacity.
During the fifth century AD,a series of earthquakes damaged the
structure,but it is still beautiful and it is one of Rome’s most popular
tourist attractions hosting millions of visitors every year.
