Specification Sheet for 7.

5t box trucks

1 Background
2 The 7.5-ton truck does not have a standard specification in the trucking industry as the dimensions and payload
3 depend on the chassis (truck manufacturer) and the body (body builder). As different types of manufacturers and
4 truck types exist in the market, it is important to have a standard specification sheet to source the right equipment
5 for Amazon operations. 7.5t trucks must be loaded/unloaded at the same dock doors as trailers and this document
6 aims to provide the key specifications for a safe and a smooth operation flow.
7
8 7.5t Truck Specifications
9 For the 7.5t box trucks, carriers need to comply with the following specifications:
10
11 1. A 7.5t truck should have a Permitted gross truck weight of 7.499 kg (should be less than 7.5t to comply
12 with the driving ban regulation) with a payload of minimum 2.000 kg. This needs to be clearly stated in
13 the registration papers of the truck.
14 a. In the picture below box F.2 value, which indicates the GVW, must be 7.499 kg.
15 b. Box G is the empty weight of the truck. The difference between F2 (GVW) and G (vehicle empty
16 weight) must be >2.000 kg for the truck to be considered as a 7.5t truck.

21
22 An example for a 7.5t truck registration paper (Figure 2), F2 is 7490 kg and the payload is F2-G=3040 kg,
23 which complies with the Amazon standards.

29 There are some cases where the permitted gross vehicle weight will be 7200 kg. These are Iveco Daily
30 type vehicles, of which some carriers prefer to use. See Figure 3 for such an example. In this case, we do
31 consider these types of vehicles as a 7.5t truck, as long as the loading height of the vehicle do match the
32 site’s requirements.

33
34 Figure 3: 7.2t truck -> accepted only if the loading height fits the EHS requirements
35
36 An example for a 3.5t van registration paper (Figure 4), F2 is 3500 kg and the payload is F2-G=705 kg,
37 which DOES NOT comply with the Amazon standards as a 7.5t truck.
38

39
40 Figure 4: Van registration paper -> NOT ACCEPTED AS A 7.5t TRUCK
41
42 2. Loading height of the box body bed (distance from the ground to the loading bed of the truck) must be
43 complaint with the EHS requirements of the site. As a general guideline, the loading height must be
44 minimum ~1.100mm. The minimum loading height could change according to the dock door height and
45 the length of the dock leveler. The minimum height of the vehicle is also dependent on if the site is using
46 an electric pallet jack or a manual pallet jack.

Loading height
47
48 See an example on how to calculate the minimum acceptable loading height for a truck (example from CDG9):
49  Height of dock leveler/warehouse bay floor : 1200 mm
50  Length of dock leveler: 2500 mm
51  If a manual pallet jack is used in the site, the EHS standard for Ramp inclination is max 3%. Therefore,
52 the minimum loading height of the truck is calculated as:
53 (Dock Height) – [(Length of dock leveler)*max. inclination %] = 1125 mm
54  If a electric pallet jack is used in the site, the EHS standard for Ramp inclination is max 8%. Therefore,
55 the minimum loading height of the truck is calculated as: 1000 mm

56 3. Width of the box body must be > 2450 mm so that dock leveler could be placed inside the box body.

76 5. Box body could be rigid or curtain sider/back door: Both rigid and curtain bodies are accepted. Trucks
77 with curtain rear door are allowed when they can be docked, at dock bay and provided it is possible to
78 open the rear curtain door by the Indoor associate from inside the building.

92 6. Taillift availability: Ideally, trucks without a taillift is preferred for the operation. Trucks with a taillift are
93 acceptable depending on the site’s capacity. If the taillift is available on the truck, then it must be
94 stowed under the truck or under the dock door during the operation, as the truck will load/unload at the
95 dock door.

135 How to recognize a 7.5t truck from the cab:

136  If Mercedes, it is their Atego model and they should have a “818” on the driver door.
137  If DAF, it is their LF model, it is their LF 150, 160 or 170 model.
138  If IVECO, it should be their Eurocargo model, ML75 model.
139  If MAN brand, then TGL with 818 number on the driver door.

143 Not acceptable equipment types as 7.5t trucks:
144
145 1. If the model is a converted van into a box van/truck (Mercedes Sprinter, Renault Master etc.), these
146 vehicles are too low to be loaded/unloaded at the dock doors. These vehicles will be considered as a van
147 instead of a 7.5t truck. See pictures below for an unacceptable gradient for the dock leveler at our sites.
