Democrats view socialism more favorably than

capitalism, Gallup Polls say…

By Alex Pappas
Democrats are giving up on capitalism.

According to a Gallup poll released Monday, more Democrats view socialism positively than
they do capitalism – a development that comes amid the popularity of Democratic socialist
candidates in the midterm elections.

Fifty-seven percent of Democrats polled by Gallup have a favorable view of socialism, while just
47 percent of Democrats in the poll have positive feelings about capitalism.

It wasn’t long ago – in 2012, according to the poll -- that Democrats viewed capitalism more
favorably than socialism. But the positive feelings toward capitalism have dramatically dropped
nine points since 2016, when 56 percent of Democrats said they liked capitalism.

Some liberals celebrated the poll numbers.

“A funny thing happens when you demonize universal health care, nutritional aid, and
unemployment benefits as ‘socialism’: lots of people decide socialism is OK,” New York Times
op-ed writer Paul Krugman tweeted.

Meanwhile, conservatives drew attention to the poll, with the Republican campaign group
America Rising taking aim at Democrats, saying it shows “just how far to the left the party is
being pulled.” Other conservatives on Twitter cited the poll and pointed to the ongoing crisis in
Venezuela, a socialist country.

Republicans still overwhelmingly prefer capitalism, with 71 percent saying in the poll they have
a positive view of it and just 16 percent saying they see capitalism favorably.

The poll numbers follow the popularity in the Democratic Party of far-left figures like Vermont
Sen. Bernie Sanders, who ran for president in 2016, and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a member of
the Democratic Socialists of America who defeated an incumbent this summer in a Democratic
primary for a congressional seat.

Still, some Democrats have struggled trying to balance attracting support from the far-left, while
still appealing to mainstream voters.

Last week, Maryland Democratic gubernatorial nominee Ben Jealous, endorsed by Sanders,
cursed at a reporter on Wednesday for asking if he's a socialist.

DEM CANDIDATE BEN JEALOUS SNAPS AT REPORTER FOR SOCIALISM

QUESTION
“Are you ******* kidding me?" replied Jealous, the former leader of the NAACP.

Jealous is challenging Republican Gov. Larry Hogan, whose campaign has painted the Democrat
as a far-left candidate. He later apologized for the outburst.
Democrats have no idea what demons they are unleashing
By Newt Gingrich

A few weeks ago, a member of the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) wrote an article for
Vox explaining the movement’s goals – to end capitalism and radically change America.

In normal times, the declarations of a fringe party and ideology in America would not merit
much attention. However, these are not normal times. A new Gallup poll shows that 57 percent
of Democrats have a favorable view of socialism – while only 47 percent view capitalism
positively.
This pattern has been building for a while. Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont took socialism
mainstream in the party during the 2016 Democratic presidential primaries. Since then,
Democratic Party candy dates have been increasingly attaching themselves to the ideology. Most
notably, a telegenic young member of the Democratic Socialists of America named Alexandria
Ocasio-Cortez defeated a senior Democrat in New York City’s 14 th Congressional District and has
since been on a whirlwind media tour, spreading the gospel of socialism. So, the Vox article (or
manifesto) is worth taking seriously. Reading it, I was struck by how remarkably honest it was.
The writer, Meagan Day, a member of the East Bay Chapter of DSA, explicitly debunks the
apologists in the mainstream media trying to paper over the group’s radicalism. Day quotes
several prominent news “analysts” who argue that Democratic Socialism is just New Deal
liberalism rebranded. She then dumps a bucket of cold water on them, writing that “in the long
run, Democratic Socialists want to end capitalism. In fact, she writes that the liberal, big-
government reforms the movement has chosen to rally behind in partnership with the
Democratic Party are simply steppingstones to this eventual goal. “Social democratic reforms
like Medicare-for-all are, in the eyes of DSA, part of the long, uneven process of building that
support, and eventually overthrowing capitalism,” she writes. This explicit goal of ending
capitalism makes clear what Ocasio-Cortez meant when she said cryptically in a recent
interview, that “capitalism has not always existed in the world, and it will not always exist in the
world.”

Can Democrats win with socialism in November?

This is a clear threat to the system which has made us prosperous and the envy of the world, but
I appreciate the honesty. Ultimately, the United States is a democratic republic. If Day, Ocasio-
Cortez and Sanders want to try and convince most Americans to end capitalism and embrace a
planned, totally redistributionist economy, they are welcome to use the democratic process to do
so. It is up to those of us who know better to convince Americans of socialism’s folly. However,
the second notable item in Day’s article suggests that Democratic Socialists don’t value
democracy all that much. Day also identified herself as a staff writer at a New York-based,
socialist magazine called Jacobin. In fact, several members of the Democratic Socialists of
America are writers and editors at Jacobin magazine. A magazine that would enthusiastically
embrace this title is signaling that, like socialist movements of the past, the DSA is willing to
drop the “democratic” part of its moniker and instead rely on the traditional method for socialist
revolution – bloodshed, violence and tyranny.
The Jacobins were the most violent and radical political group of the French Revolution. Led by
Maximilien Robespierre, the group responded to a growing backlash against the revolution by executing
anyone their so-called Committee of Public Safety deemed insufficiently loyal. The Jacobin clubs located
throughout the country were used as a secret police force to root out dissent among politicians and the
general populace alike. Historian Timothy Tackett estimates that almost 40,000 people were killed under
the Jacobin control of the French government. Many were beheaded by guillotine in a grotesque public
spectacle after a show trial, and others were brutally executed with firearms. In the case of one period in
the city of Lyon, people were executed in masse by cannon fire. This period of carnage was known as the
Reign of Terror. A few years ago, Callista and I saw “Dialogues of the Carmelites” at the Washington
National Opera. It is a moving, true story of the Carmelite nuns who refused to denounce Christ at the
peak of the Reign of Terror. (The French Revolution was virulently anti-Catholic – many churches were
closed and reopened as “Temples of Reason.”) The nuns were beheaded for their unwillingness to
denounce their faith. Moments before the guillotine dropped, they displayed the power of God’s love by
singing hymns and renewing their vows. A few years later we visited the Picpus Cemetery in Paris. It holds
the graves of the martyred nuns and more than 1,300 victims of the Terror in a six-week period of 1794. It
is a very sober reminder of what the Jacobins did during the Reign of Terror. It is not a record for which
any American should advocate. Christopher Hibbert’s “The French Revolution” contains more vivid
details of the horrors the Jacobins inflicted upon the people of France. In one instance, he writes, “a
woman was charged with the heinous crime of having wept at the execution of her husband. She was
condemned to sit several hours under the suspended blade which shed upon her, drop by drop, the blood
of the deceased whose corpse was above her on the scaffold before she was released by death from her
agony.” Make no mistake: This is the history of violent revolution, religious oppression, and dictatorship
that Jacobin magazine, the DSA, and opportunistic Democrats are embracing – whether they know it or
not. Sen. Sanders, and more have recently shared articles from Jacobin magazine on their social media
accounts. Rep. Keith Ellison, Democrat - Minnesota, once sent a Jacobin piece to everyone in Congress. It
is hard to imagine a modern-day Reign of Terror happening in America. But consider the recent
phenomenon of outrage mobs on social media demanding people be fired and ostracized for expressing
un-PC points of view. Think about the left-wing activists taking over classrooms to prevent conservative
voices from speaking. Think about the rash of people being attacked for wearing Make America Great
Again hats. Think about the violence of Antifa. Perhaps it is not so difficult to imagine. While I do not
know Ocasio-Cortez, I have interacted with Bernie Sanders numerous times in my career. He is an earnest
guy, and I seriously doubt he would countenance violence in pursuit of his socialist goals. Sanders should
keep in mind, however, that the Jacobins eventually turned on Robespierre (in fact they executed him). So
perhaps Sanders and Democrats rushing to embrace Democratic Socialism should be a little more careful
about the demons they are unleashing to win elections.
Which type of government system is best for America’s future? Socialism? Capitalism?

Where has socialism even worked? Is capitalism the better option? Let’s find out…

In 2012, the positive rating for socialism among the Democrats was 44%, now, it is at 53%,

according to a new Gallup poll released this month. What happened? Trump happened. Donald Trump

does not support socialism, but instead, free market capitalism, in which is how our country was founded

upon. Anything Trump does, likes, or says, most liberals despise and are opposed! Socialism is the idea

that everything should center around equality. In government, these ideas would include; free Health

Care, free housing, and free colleges for all, although, these “free” things do not really mean they are free.

Most tax payers would be in debt if socialism were to be accepted into our country. The “free”

things that socialism would bring is enormously expensive! Why? Because the people who work within

the “free” departments still need to be paid! The only way for the government to pay these people for
working, and the debt that is caused by free Health Care, is to push humongous taxes on us citizen payers!

Alexandria Ocasio – Cortez, a women nominee for congress from New York City’s 14 District and liberal

socialist from the Democratic Party, hopes to increase our taxes to pay for the government’s debt of $3

trillion (for health care) that would accumulate if socialism becomes our new system of government.

WOW! The huge taxes we could be paying wouldn’t even create a dent on the bill for just Health Care

alone! In socialism, the government would have a lot of control, so that would mean the President of a

socialist country would have a lot of power. But wait, I thought liberals did not trust Trump? Then why

do they want a government system that would give the president more power over their lives? Do they

want Trump in charge of their health care, Trump as their landlord, Trump running the colleges? (Jesse

Watters said in one of his shows)

Also, in this health care system, the government has the choice to keep you alive or let you die.

Here is a true story to illustrate my point: A baby boy in England, a few months ago, was dying from a

lung problem restricting him to breathe properly. The English government would not pay for his medical

attention any more. The parents could do nothing to feed the oxygen to the boy’s body. The government

would not let the parents pay for more medical attention because the government owns the Health Care,

and it is a monopoly. Here in the US, if one hospital does not take you, there are plenty other hospitals

that you can go to. Not in England. The government decides if you have the right to live, depending on

how much the cost will be due to limited government funds for health care. Therefore, the more

government control there is, the worse a country’s dwelling could be. An Italian doctor eventually offered

help, so a plane was sent, by the Italian government, to pick up the family and bring them to Italy for the

boy’s treatment. The British government did not allow this at first, but political pressure made the them

change their mind. The English government did not like what was happening at all. The boy, I think, lives

on.
Question: Where has socialism even worked? Venezuela? Let’s see, back in 1971, the movement

for socialism in Venezuela began, then a few years later, they became a socialist country. Venezuela had a

great economy before they tried socialism. In Fact, Venezuela was blessed with bountiful natural

resources and a major exporter of oil from South America, before the socialist government took over all

the oil companies. Another monopoly. Now look at Venezuela… filthy, in debt, 90% of population is in

poverty, lots of starvation (Average person lost 24 pounds last year, they were not even dieting!), mass

crime, murder capital of the world (behind El Salvador) sick people are taking dog medicine & there is a

massive toilet paper shortage! A single toilet paper roll is worth more than their currency. Also, people

who flee Venezuela, don’t talk about bringing socialism to that country in which they fled to, they speak

the reverse.

Liberals in the US, however, want our country to be like Sweden’s socialism, although that does

not exist, nor did it exist, IT IS A LIBREAL FANTASY! A few decades ago, Sweden was going off a

cliff until capitalist politicians took control again to grab the country by the neck and yank things in the

right direction (LITERALLY). You know which country is doing better than Sweden, even after they

changed? Switzerland. You know why? Because it is a capitalist power house. Also, think about this, did

any socialist countries invent the iPhone? Put a man on the moon? Defeat the Nazis? What good even

comes out of socialism?

A little while ago, I was reading another article, I found out that a socialist writer at Vox made

public that she writes for Jacobins. (Just to be clear, both are biased and FAKE NEWS organizations).

Let’s look at the history of the Jacobins. The Jacobins are a group of people who were the most violent

and radical people during the French Revolution. These people were responsible for massive death by

murder. The targets, during these times, were anyone who disagreed with them in politics or in religion.

The Catholic Church was a target, but more specifically, the Nuns who would not denounce their faith.

After the Revolution, the leader of the Jacobins was killed because his own party revolted against him.
Here is a warning to the leaders of Socialism, 1) Don’t fight fire you started, with fire, & 2) Don’t follow

in the same footsteps as the Jacobins leader, the group turned on their leader. He got killed! Beware

socialist leaders Bernie Sanders & Alexandria Ocasio – Cortez. This could might as well happen again to

you two, just not by death… I can guarantee that. Final word about this, SOCIALISM NEVER WORKS!

Alexandria Ocasio – Cortez (Democrat/Socialist – New York City’s 14 District) said in one

interview, “Capitalism has not always existed in the world, and it will not always exist in the world.” This

comment, in my opinion, is just nonsense because capitalism has lasted us since our nations birth and is

working stronger than ever thanks to Trumps 4% Economic growth. (That is for another day)

Now, you might ask, “What is capitalism?” and, “Why is it so great?” Capitalism is quite the

opposite of Socialism. Capitalism is an economic and political system in which a country’s trade and

industry are controlled by the people for profit, rather than by the state (or government). Capitalism is a

system with a free market and no monopolies. You have more freedoms and a choice to work

independently (With minimal government involvement in your business). An economy works quicker,

more efficiently, & fairly, for the most part. You can start your own business without the governments

consultation, other than licenses. Here are freedoms included with free market capitalism: private

property, self-interest, which means you can do pretty much anything you wish, competition, freedom of

choice, free market, and a limited role of government involved in your life. Capitalism is not perfect for

everyone, especially if you are an elderly or someone with a severe disability which restricts you from

working or have a lack of mental abilities. Although, we have some socialist type systems for these

people who have disabilities who receive Medicare. Medicare is a federal system of health insurance

that will pay people over 65 years of age and for certain younger people with disabilities.

Overall, where has socialism ever worked? Venezuela? Sweden? Is capitalism better? Which type

of government is best for our country? Capitalism? Socialism? I’ll let you decide on that, but keep in

mind, socialism has never worked, capitalism has.
