Medical Lighting Guide 2016

Introduction

The new LG2: Hospitals and Healthcare Buildings, published

in November 2008, replaces the 1989 version, and takes
into account advances in lighting technology and medical
practice.

This booklet is designed to be used in conjunction with the LG2 guide. It gives
an overview to hospital engineers, electrical consultants and users regarding
requirements for examination lighting and products manufactured by Glamox Luxo
to fulfil the latest needs.

This second edition incorporates the advanced product design using latest high
quality LED technology achieving lower energy consumption and maintenance with
improved colour rendition and professional user recommended requirements.

Glamox Luxo are ISO 14001 compliant and adhere to with relevant environmental
legislation; our aim is to be at the forefront in this field.

Our factories are ISO 13485 approved as a producer of medical equipment.

appearance of the light i.e. “warm” (low colour temperature 3000K or below) or “cool”

necessarily mean high colour rendering.

Lighting in Bedded Areas

Patient wards are one of the most challenging areas to light well, as the
considerations of the patient as well as the staff need to be taken into account. These
areas are occupied 24 hours a day and lighting needs to cater for patient comfort
and relaxation, doctor and nurse treatment, night time safety and observation, as
well as catering for mains failure and emergencies.

Ward Bedhead

A55-W
The A55-W LED is a wall mounted bedhead luminaire for medical care use, with
a design and light quality that contributes to a domestic ambience in the ward
or patient room. Still it has all the technical features needed for use in modern
healthcare environments.

A wide variety of options

The design of Glamox A55-W LED allows for a wide variety of options. The
luminaire can be equipped with up to four 230V mains sockets. It can also be
configured for low voltage equipment such as emergency switches and data
modules. We can deliver A55-W LED inset with up to four empty installation
housings.

Glamox A55-W has a curved design with smooth rounded corners, and no sharp
edges. The slanted top ensures that cups and other objects that could topple and fall
down cannot be placed on top of the luminiare. It fulfils relevant lighting requirements Brackets – Wall for LHH, Carelite and Nova

Hospitals normally work in two standards of illuminance. In critical areas such as
operating theatres, delivery rooms and high dependency units, the quality of standby
lighting should equal, or near equal (90+%), to the normal mains lighting level; this
is classified as Grade A. Non-critical but important areas will required lighting to a
reduced level, generally 50% of the normal mains level; this is classified as Grade B.

The two standard of standby lighting recommended are:

-- Grade A: lighting that is of a quality that equals, or nearly equals (i.e. 90+%),
that provided the normal mains lighting. In additional certain Grade A
classified areas, such as operating theatres, must have sustained lighting so
that no outage is experienced.
-- Grade B: lighting that is at a reduced level, i.e. between 50% of normal mains
level. The exact level should be determined by the task activity and its ability to
be carried out properly.

Note: In hospitals and nursing homes, selective switching or dimming of lamps will reduce
the overall light output below that of its “installed” level. At such times, this lower lighting
level describes the task requirement. Therefore the standby lighting, if achieved during this
period (whether Grade A or Grade B ad defined above), should relate to the lower level
condition.
