CONTEMPORARY WORLD

Their are many businesses and corporations that is present in our generation that
takes advantage our society and our needs to gain profit. Some of them have good
intentions, but, most of them just want to exploit our society. The documentary “The
Corporation” by Mark Achbar and Jennifer Abbott tackles about the history, dominance,
nature, and evolution of the corporation throughout the years.

The modern corporation is a offspring of the industrial age in 1712 when a man
named Thomas Newcomen invented the steam driven pump that they used in a coal mine
to remove the use of buckets in collecting water so they can get more coal. With his
invention, the dawn of the corporation started. According to the documentary, 150 years
ago, the business industry is relatively insignificant to the humanity. But when time
passes we witness the importance of these corporations. The two World Wars significantly
affect the production and it also boosted the power of corporations and businesses across
the whole world. According the the statistics, the 1st and 2nd World Wars saved many
companies by creating more needs especially in wartime productions in the United States
of America. These events saved tons of businesses from the Great Depression occurred in
1929 and ended in 1939. But these corporations are considered as a monster who devour
as much profit as possibly they can. Business corporations are also considered as a whale
who looks gentle but it can swallow you in an instant. The corporates give our people jobs
so they can provide and live in good condition, they help our economy by boosting the
GDP of our country, they create more opportunities so we can build a strong alliances with
our neighbouring countries. Through out the years, we witnessed the strong and
continuous prosperity of our business sectors. We all benefitted to the success. We
humans really are creative in different ways and aspect. But people, these corporations are
taking advantage our society. They want to gain profit, they will do anything to get and
reach their goals even destroying our environment, exploiting the people of a certain
country. These group of people who works together to achieve a goal. These group of
people are also called association agreed to perform a particular function in the state.

I am really overwhelmed by the fact that most of the problems that we have today is
the outcome of our being creative and the urge of being productive in every possible ways.
In the end of the day, these corporations will always prevail. They will continue to provide
our needs but in a huge stake. We are the only one who can help each other to remove
those who create sufferings and the destructions in our world.
