Music: music of Indonesia


Two major parts of music of Indonesia:
1 Javanese music
2 Balinese music
“Gamelan” from the Javanese word “gamel” means “hammer” and Balinese word “gambeli”
means “to play musically”.
Gamelan- a traditional orchestra of Indonesia.
Metallophones- any percussion instrument consisting of series of struck metal bars.
Membranophones- instruments that produce sound by vibrating a membrane. it is made of
skins or membranes.
Gongs- a large, flat, circular piece of metal that you hit with a hammer.
Spike fiddle- any of a number of stringed instruments in which the handle passes
diametrically through the resonator and which are played with a bow, made of bamboo,
bronze, or gold.
Bamboo flutes- made of bamboo or bones.
Major functions of gamelan- to accompany songs, dances, and shadow plays.
Gamelan orchestra- is believed to be sacred and supernatural powers.
Pasindhen- a group of female vocalists.
Gerong- a male choruses.
Tuning System: two musical scales in Indonesia
1 Slendo- pentatonic/ 5 tones
2 Peloy- heptatonic/ 7 tones
Music of Thailand: Classification of Thai music:
A. Luk Thung- rural music
B. Mor lan- folk music
C. Kuntrum- Dance music and has fast pace.
D. Luk Krung- romantic music popular with the upper class.
1 Piphat Ensemble- Most common and mid-size orchestra that is used to perform in
funeral cremation, ceremonies, traditional dances, drama, and shadow puppet theater.
2 Mahori Ensemble- A small ensemble of women musicians. Usually consists of 9 to 11
instruments.
3 Khruang Sai Ensemble- Combines some of percussion and wind instruments of Piphat
ensemble with some string instruments, it is played indoors.
Arts: Indonesia and Malaysia:
Arts of Indonesia:

 Batik of Indonesia- it is the process of dying and waxing which originated in Java
centuries ago.
 The Balinese Painting- these are painting that are quite famous and from often
express natural scenes and themes from the traditional dances.
 Bali- sculptures is applied even in wood carving for furniture and ornamentations,
engraving, and silver works.
 Wayang Kulit of Indonesia- it is shadow puppet theater communicating events from
myths by the people of Bali and Java.
Arts of Malaysia:
Makyong- it is one of the most popular traditional form of drama in Malaysia.
Batik of Malaysia- the most popular cloth design of the Malays, it is recognized as
Malaysian national dress.
Bunga Malai/Malai- these are made of basil and mango tree leaves tied or hung
together, used in religious celebrations, weddings, welcoming of guest, etc.
Wayang Kulit of Malaysia- this is a traditional use of puppet and light to cast
shadows on a white screen.

Health Related Fitness
Physical Fitness- this refers to our body system ability to work together efficiently. It means
being able to do daily activities.
Fitness Testing- also known as a fitness assessment that is comprised of sires of exercises.
Cardio-Respiratory Endurances- Ability of the heart, blood vessels, and respiratory system
to deliver oxygen to the mind efficiently.

Health
Gender- is the range of the physical biological, mental, and behavioral of a person, it is also
differentiating between masculinity and femininity, or the state of being male or female.
Sex- Refers to the biological and physiological characteristics that define men and woman.
Sexuality- refers to all that is involved identity as a sexual being.
Human sexuality- involves the biological dimension, psychological dimension, and
sociocultural dimension of a person.
Psychological dimension- is about the attitudes and feelings you have towards oneself and
others.
Biological dimension- involves one’s physiological response to sexual stimulation,
reproduction, puberty, changes resulting from pregnancy and growth development in
general.
Sociocultural dimension- is the sum of the cultural and social influences that affect
thoughts and actions.
o Religion Influences- Influences feelings about morality, sexual behavior, abortion,
and the like.
o Ethical Influences (moral)- is simply the basic questions of what is right and wrong.
o Multicultural Influence- include all sexuality-related beliefs and behaviors you
learned from your environment you are in.
Factors Affecting the attitudes and practices on sexuality:

Importance of Sexuality for the Family health:

 Parents have the moral duty to make their children know about the mysteries of the
human life, because the family, is in fact, the best environment to provide children
with gradual education in sexual life.
 Sexual health is about having a positive and respectful approach to sexuality and
sexual relationship.
 To get and maintain sexual health, a person’s sexual rights must be respected,
protected, and fulfilled.
 To respect a person’s sexual rights is a manifestation of respect for human rights.

Illustration/ Example:
Symbol for the Roman goddess Venus which is often used to represent the female sex.

Usually interpreted as the shield and spear of the Roman war god Ares which
is often used to represent the male sex.
