Dear Diary

Grandpa often visits The Delhi Cheshire home – a home for the senior citizens who have
been disowned by their family members. I had gone to my parent’s house to spend a
week when grandpa offered to take me to The Delhi Cheshire Home. Since I was getting
bored, I readily agreed but little did I know at that time that this visit would change my
perspective towards life forever.
On reaching the home, my grandfather introduced me to the administrative staff and
then I was led by him to meet the inmates residing there. While some of them were
physically capable there were a few who looked very weak and needed help.
Of course, all of them were lonely. I sat there for two hours chatting with them and
discovered that their children had disowned them after taking their property, cash and
valuables.
This made me realise how some of us become so selfish in our pursuit to be wealthy
that we forget our basic human values. Some of the inmates of the home were retired
teachers so I suggested to them to start classes for the poor children of the area.
In fact my grandfather spoke to the administrator and he has agreed to give us a
room to conduct them.
After having lunch with all the senior citizens and promising them to return the
next Saturday, I left Cheshire home with a deep desire in my heart to make a
positive difference to the lives of my new friends.
