WRAP-UP ACTIVITY: “How I’ll Show What I Know”

“Photo Essay (Reflective Essay)”

This week we discussed about the Assessment

Affective Domain. I learned a lot especially on what
an Affective Domain really means. We’re not new in
this topic, yet I understand even more and gave me
significant information that could really help in my
future career as an educator. As we all know,
Affective Domain is one of the three domains in
Bloom’s Taxonomy. It was said that it is the hardest
one to understand for it involves the feelings,
emotions, thoughts, as well as the attitude. I agree, it
was really hard to understand one’s feelings because
we are not the ones who feel it. Additionally, it was
emphasized that the affective domain is the opposite
of the cognitive domain. Why? Simply because the
cognitive domain is more objective than the affective
domain.

On the other hand, I would like to give more

emphasis on Krathwol’s Taxonomy of Affective
Domain which presented the five (5) stages. This
part really stuck in my mind because among all of
the affective taxonomies I learned before, I can say
that this is the most well-known. The attitudes,
values, interests, and appreciation of learners are the
core topics of the affective domain. Then, this area
covers how people interact with objects emotionally,
such as feelings, values, admiration, enthusiasm,
motivations, and attitudes. I can say that it was so realistic that almost all of us can relate and can
really be applied in real-life situations. Let me emphasize the five stages of this taxonomy. First,
the Receiving which relates to a student's openness to paying attention to certain facts or stimuli
(classroom activities, textbook, music, etc.). Getting, keeping, and guiding the student's attention
are the main concerns from a teaching perspective. It was said that the outcomes of learning in
this domain range from the learner's knowledge of an object's existence to their ability to pay
attention just to certain things. Learning about this first stage made you realize how students’ pay
attention to their instructor and as a future educator, this stage helps me on how to get the
attention and interest of my students. Secondly, the Responding. At this stage, a student not only
pays attention to a certain phenomenon but also responds to it in some way. Learning outcomes
in this area may place an emphasis on compliance with responding (reads beyond assignments)
or satisfaction with responding (reads for pleasure or enjoyment). It was said that the highest
levels of this category contain the instructional objectives that are typically categorized as
interest; that is, those that emphasize the pursuit and enjoyment of certain activities. The third
stage is the Valuing. This stage tackles the value or worth a student places on a specific thing,
phenomenon. From the more straightforward level of value acceptance (wanting to develop one's
interpersonal abilities) to the more demanding level of commitment, this ranges in degree
(assumes responsibility for the effective functioning of the group). One of the best examples of
this is on how student/s demonstrates a certain problem solving attitude.. Another one is the
Organization which involves bringing values together, resolving disputes among them, and
starting the construction of an internally consistent value system. So, linking, comparing, and
synthesizing values are what are prioritized. The learning outcomes may be focused on
organizing a value system or conceptualizing a value. It was said that this category would
include educational goals involving the formation of a personal philosophy of life. The last stage
of Krathwol’s taxonomy was the Characterization or simply means applying all his/her
knowledge in his/herself or in real-life situations. Its value system has governed a person's
conduct for a long enough period of time to allow him to build a distinctive way of life that is
present at the affective domain's level of characterization. It was said that the conduct is
widespread, constant, and predictable as a result.

In conclusion, this topic is really relevant not only as a course itself, but as a stepping
stone in order for us to understand each and every student, and on how to approach them
properly. Remember, we are dealing with diverse students, that is why we must know how to
deal with students who have different values, attitude, beliefs, and culture. Therefore, I am
grateful beyond everything that our instructor discussed precisely because it made us realize how
essential it is to understand not only the Cognitive domain, but also the Affective domain that
also plays a huge role in understanding oneself.

To do this project I will need help with:

 Draft plan
 Pictures and content contained in the PPT

Action Plan:

In creating a photo essay you should follow the procedure:

1. Analyze the topic.

2. Do not limit yourself with the teaching materials given by your instructor. As much as
possible do your own research for more information and knowledge.
3. Choose and highlight the topic you want to emphasize more.
4. Choose the best photo that suits your topic.
5. Organize your thoughts and use words appropriately.
6. Make sure that your essay has the I.B.C (Introduction, Body, and Conclusion) to make it
more relevant and organized.

The criteria/rubrics that will be used to assess the finish product is:

 CONTENT - 10
 ORGANIZATION - 5
 GRAMMAR, USAGE & MECHANICS - 5

TOTAL: - 20
