Semi-Detailed Lesson Plan in English 7

Grade & Class: Paolo Campos 7:30 – 8:20

I. Objectives

At the end of the 50 minutes discussion, the Grade 7 students are expected to:

1. Identify the verb in the sentence and verb tense used;


2. Rewrite the story in the simple past tense form;
3. Write a sentence using the past, present, or future tense of the verb; and
4. Reflect on the importance of tense consistency.

II. Subject Matter

Topic: Tenses of Verb: Past, Present, and Future Tense


Reference: English 7 Learning Plan (page 50)
Materials: Visual aids, pictures

III. Methodology

A. Activities

1. Prayer and checking of attendance


2. Motivation
 Present three pictures to the class. The first picture shows an action that
has not taken place yet. The second picture shows that the action is
actually happening. The last picture shows the action has already
happened.
 Ask the class as to what have they observed in the three pictures.
 Ask them if they have an idea as to what will be the lesson about.
 Explain that the pictures are in connection with the topic for the day which
is about the tenses of verbs.

3. Presentation
 Explain that there are three main verb tenses; past, present and future.
Each tense is divided into; simple, continuous, perfect and perfect
continuous. But in this lesson, they will focus at the simple tenses in
the past, present and future.
 The present tense may express an action that is repeated or ongoing.
It can also express an action that is happening at this moment or a
situation that is always true.
 The past tense expresses an action that has already happened. In
regular verbs, the past tense is formed by adding –ed or –d to the base
form. In irregular verbs, the past tense takes a variety of forms.
 The future tense expresses an action that will take place in the future.
The future tense is formed by adding will to the base form.
4. Analysis
 Open the class for queries and clarification
 If all are clarified, divide the class into 2.
 Give each group a story that has no verb tense consistency.
 Let the students rewrite the story in the simple past tense form and
present it to the class.

5. Abstraction
 Ask the students the following questions:
o Why is it important to be consistent with the use of tenses in our
writing and in our daily conversations?
o Explain that changes in verb tense can help the reader and
listener understand when something is happening at a different
time. But unexpected or inconsistent shift in tense can be
confusing for the readers and listeners.

IV. Evaluation

Write the past, present, and future tense of the given verb.

Example: See

Past tense - I saw Chris yesterday


Present tense - I see Chris at work.
Future tense - I will see Chris at the party this evening.
