Dasha
DASHA SYSTEM Meaning of Dasha:

Astrological Dasha, a Sanskrit word simply means major time period of planets.

It’s a tool to identify the time of the main planetary period during which an event
either good or bad is indicated in a Horoscope.

Utility of Dasha System:

1. Dasha reflect the effects that various planets have on any individual life.

2. 2. To understand the auspicious or inauspicious events of an individual, or the

environments.

Transit

Meaning of transit: The planets are keep on moving. Planets on the move are
called transiting planets. As the planets move, they also form angles to each other,
and this is what the astrologers look for to make predictions. Astrologers look at
where the planets are transiting vis-à-vis planets placed in someone's chart, or
how they are going to effect, Basically Transits are the relationships between the
planet positions in a Birth Chart and the planet positions at any time after that in
transit.

What is the importance of transit from the Moon?

Analyze transits from Moon first and also Lagna Parasara emphasized the
importance of transit (“Gochara”) from the Moon as the Moon is a karaka of our
mind, feelings and emotions and hence our day to day life/ events will be best
reflected in how we think/ feel/ emotions.

Difference between Dasha & Transit

First of all, what are dashas? Dashas are planetary periods in a

person’s life where a particular planet gets to rule over that person. A
person’s life is divided into several dashas known as mahadashas.
Each mahadasha is further divided into antardashas (or bhuktis). Each
bhukti is again further sub-divided into their own dasha periods etc.
Depending on the nature and behavior of the dasha lord, the life of the
native is impacted during that particular dasha.

What are transits? We know that planets keep moving all the time
through the zodiac. However, the native’s horoscope is a snapshot of
the position of the planets at the exact time of birth. What we find is
that the current position of the planets (especially the slow moving
ones like Saturn, Jupiter, Rahu and Ketu) relative to how they were
positioned at the time of birth, has a big impact on the native’s life.

Correlation between dasha and transit

The answer to the query is quite academic for students of astrology. We cannot define
which Mahadasa or transit is powerful as both have their individual different role and
give their impact in different way in a native’s life. So both are important in deciding
the timing of an event.

To study for certain events in a native’s life we need to study the horoscope and first
see if that event is promised in the horoscope or not. If the event is promised then we
need to study the time of its delivery and that we find it from the mahadasa period.
The transit planets trigger and ACTIVATE the event during their transition.
TRANSIT PLANET CAN NOT GIVE AN EVENT IF THE EVENT IS NOT
PROMISED IN THE HOROSCOPE.

@P2 Dasha & Basic Transit 5

Dasha & Basic Transit
For example of marriage, if in the native’s horoscope marriage is not promised then during
transition the planet in transit going over marriage making houses will trigger and so an
ENVIRONMENT FOR GETTING MARRIED FOR THE NATIVE WILL GENERATE and so
the native will start looking for a suitable spouse to get married. Everyone at home will be
excited to see the native married and the native himself will try very hard with full energy
during that period of time ……….
………BUT …..will not succeed in getting married as in DESTINY LEVEL IT IS
NOT PROMISED IN THE HOROSCOPE.

Vimshottari: As per several modern English astrology books, Vimshottari is a modified

form of Vim (20) + Shattari (100), as human life is said to be of 120 years maximum.

Actually it should be Vimsh (20) + Shattari (100) as per several books.

{Vimsh(20) + Shat (100) + Uttari (crossing over) seems to be correct as per Sanskrit
language. }

Vimshottari means hundred and twenty. This is the total years allotted to all the
planets representing 120 years of a full span of man life. According to Laghu
Parashari, all the planets good or bad, when in their dasha and their own antardasha
do not give good or bad results according to their nature. Planets in their dashas will
give following results. Here is the Interpretation of Vimshottari Dasha of each planet.

Meaning of Vimshottari:
Vimshottari is Vim (20) + Shottari (100) ie., 120 years of Human existence.

The Best Dasha:

Vimsottari dasa is the greatest gift of the Maharishi’s for the welfare of people
in Dark Age of Kali especially since the maximum longevity of man during this
Dark Age is 120 years (Vimsottari means 120 which is the maximum period of
the Vimsottari Dasa scheme). Parasara suggested that this is the best of the
Nakshatra dasa (and perhaps the best for all purposes). Thus, our first natural
choice is Vimsottari Dasa unless other special conditions of at birth prevail.

Bhavat-Bhavam
Bhavat Bhawam is a concept which says that whichever house you are
looking to grasp results, look at that house and additionally look at the
house which is exactly at same number of house away.

Bhavat Bhavam literally means from house to house

Like, if you are looking for the results of 2nd house then also look for 2nd
from the 2nd house. Now, which house is 2nd from 2nd house, well it is
3rd house (start counting houses from 2nd house then 2nd house
becomes 1st and 3rd house becomes 2nd from 2nd house).

Taking one house as reference point we can correlate the other eleven
houses to forecast the results of the house.

For example 11th house is 6th from 6th house.6th house represents,
decease, loans, and enemies. We can analyze the the results of 6th house by
analysing the signicance of 11th house and

Five Levels of Vimshottari Dasha System.
The order of subdivision of the Dasha System is known to be in the below order,
Maha Dasha
> Antardasha
> Pratyantar Dasha
> Sookshma Dasha
> Pran Dasha

These parts are the sub divisions of the main Dasha.

Each nakshatra has a span of 13 20’. Or the Suns nakshatra this 13 20’ would mean
6 years. For Moon’s nakshatra it is 10 years , and so on . The balance of a planet
dash thus is proportionate to the extent of the Moon’s nakshatra which is yet to be
elapse.

Mahadasha of Sun: (6years): If Sun is favorable and benefic for the Lagna, Strong by
sign, placed in Trine, Kendra, or 11th house and also well placed in Divisional Charts
then person will have gain of wealth from Govt. or article related with Sun, Planet
Sun in Astrology represents the Soul, the Father, Govt, Power, authority, and how
you come out and deal with the people. Simply understand a strong Sun gives you
life-giving energy, willpower, immunity, the ability to fight with all evils of your life
including infighting with the diseases. A strong Sun basically gives you the power to
lead in all odds in life but can also give you aggression leading to self-centered
tendencies. On the other hand, a weak Sun can cause a lack of confidence, poor
self-expression, and challenging situations vis-à-vis authorities. Sun signifies how
will be a person's tolerance level with father and how far you can benefit from your
father.
Whereas weak, ill placed Sun in sign, Divisional charts or PAC with malefic gives
many miseries, loss of wealth, loss of fame, power, loss of confidence, ill health
related to Sun nature like body burning, epilepsy, heart disease, eye trouble, skin
disease etc, punishment from Govt. Demotion in service or loss of prestige. Will be
intense anguish and danger from concealed wealth, Arishtha for Father or illness for
self.

are also given with regard to 3rd and 6th house in addition to the
natural benefic karakatwas like Child Birth, Wealth Accumulation.
House, Vehicle, Improvement in Dharma etc.

2. Saturn Lord of 4th and 5th ie., Kendra and Trikona Houses becomes
pooran Yogakaari and hence gives benefic results though being malefic
planet in addition to its malefic results like sorrow, grief, accidents
nervous system problems, longevity etc. It also gives the benefic results

How to Analysis Dasha :

To Look for the Lordship of the houses.
2. To Look for the Nature of the planet Malefic or Benefic.
3. When all the areas are checked like House, Karaka, aspects etc
then the area to be seen for the results in hidden form is
Kaalpurush.
4. Ex. There is accident during Mangal Dasha but head ache
would be coming and it must be due to Mars being the lord of
Aries. So look for the planet in the Kaalpurush Patrika.

Ex During Moon Dasha and when Moon is giving the house, there
is no scope that the house possibility is there. But due to
kaalpurush Patrika Moon is kaarak for the 4th house.
