RADAR/ARPA Different Signals

ANSWER SHEET:
Operational Definition
Warnings

CPA/TCPA Alarm Visual and aural alarms are generated when the predicted CPA and
TCPA of any target become less than their preset limits. Press the AUDIO
OFF key to acknowledge and silence the CPA/TCPA aural alarm.

Guard Zone Alarm Visual and audible alarms are generated when a target transmits the
operator-set guard zone. Press the AUDIO OFF key to acknowledge and
silence the guard zone audible alarm.

Lost Target Alarm When the system detects a loss of a tracked target, the target symbol
becomes a flashing diamond. and the label “LOST” appears at the screen
bottom. At the same time, an aural alarm is produced for one second.

Target Full Alarm for The indication “MAN TARGET FULL” appears at the screen bottom and a
Manual Acquisition short beep tone sounds when the number of manually acquired targets
reaches 20 or 40 depending on whether auto acquisition is activated or
not.

Target Full Alarm for The indication “AUTO TARGET FULL” appears at the screen bottom and
Automatic Acquisition a short beep tone sounds when the number of automatically acquired
targets reaches 20.

System Failures When the ARP board receives no signal input from the radar or external
equipment, the screen shows both “SYSTEM FAIL” associated with an
indication denoting offending equipment, also releasing an aural alarm.
The missing signals are denoted as shown below:

Own vessel’s slows its speed. While in the course 030˚T at a speed of 20kts.plots a target
ahead with 0.5miles predicted CPA requiring avoidance speed change.

 Find the CPA resultant on decreased speed to 13kts.

 Find the speed change required to increase CPA from 0.2 mile to 2 miles
Find the CPA resultant on slowing to 10kts.

PLOTTING OWN VESSEL’S CHANGE IN COURSE

Own vessel’s change in course. While in the course 030˚T at a speed of 20kts.plots a target
ahead with 0.5miles predicted CPA requiring avoidance course change.

 Find the CPA resultant from choosen 37˚ to starboard course change.
Find course required to increase CPA from 0.2 mile to 2 miles
Find the CPA resultant on slowing to 10kts.
