AUTOMATIC PORTABLE

HANDWASHING

Hi everyone i’m Chloe Nirah B. Lactam, 13 yrs of age from philippines of the school Apayao

During the SSG events, we saw a portable handwashing device and we were amazed, and
by pressing a pedal, water would come out. When we found out that we would join robotics,
we were excited because we already had an idea on what to do which is the “Automatic
portable handwashing.” This can also help students since it is portable and we can drag it
from room to room since it has wheels, which made us more inspired to make a project like
this.
Robotics is a branch of mechanical engineering, electrical engineering and electronic
engineering. It deals with the design, contruction, operation, and applications of robots, as
well as computer systems for their control. With rapid development and wider range of
applications, Robotics offer plenty for the aspiring student.Robotics is already a big part of
modern life and offers plenty of specialisation. These technological advances don’t happen
in flash, it can take months and probably even years of research, development in finding
solutions for big problems, autonomy, AI and machine learning just to build a robot that is
efficient and safe to use in a real-world situation.

This study entitled “Automatic portable handwashing” supports hand hygiene which
covers the practice of washing hands with soap and water. Such practice can be useful
especially now in these times of the pandemic to ensure safety and for prevention of illnesses.
In these times of the pandemic, we need to avoid the virus as much as possible and this
means trying not to bring any bacteria in our houses. The perfect device is the “Automatic
portable handwashing”, this way we don’t have to touch anything until are hands are nice and
clean because of the planted sensor. It makes sense now at these times to install “Automatic
portable handwashing” or touchless faucets, and based from the statistics of these touchless
faucets they surely have been growing and increasing in sales. In addition of being a healthy
aspect, it can also help in a busy kitchen when hands are full, so having an automated sensor
is a great convenience.
Why we built this project is also due to the location of our school (ASHS) which is on
the top of a mountain because the water supply here is hard to get and because of that, we use
rainwater, but with the help of this “Automatic portable handwashing” we are able to store
clean water from rain. Now that the school is having face to face classes and catering at-least
120 students, the use of these “Automatic Portable handwashing". Many researchers tested
which faucet would be better for our environment and touchless faucets really can conserve
water and energy by at least 70% on water compared to traditional faucets. Despite being one
of our most precious natural resources, water is often wasted. This “Automatic portable
handwashing” make everyday life easier, and so more ecologically. The water flow stops
automatically when you take your hands from under the faucet, saving both water and energy.
This project not only conserves water and energy when used, but also during the making of it,
we used many recycled items like pails, tiles, and even water bottles. Global warming has
caused the Antarctic glaciers to melt, which led to a rise in sea level. It is of great significance
to raise awareness of “Energy Saving and Emission Reduction”, make simple and easy
changes to your lifestyle to reduce global greenhouse gas emissions. So these “Automatic
Portable Handwashing” can use less water than a traditional one and it can prevent the
contamination of your food or hands to unseen germs and viruses.
The project used sensors namely: ultrasonic sensor, display matrix, and an audio player.
Ultrasonic sensor is important in this faucet because with the help of this, we are able to wash
our hands without touching the faucet handle. The display matrix is very helpful since it
guides the user by displaying the steps of proper handwashing like wet, soap, scrub and rinse.
Last but not the least, we have the audio player sensor, on the 20 second scrub step, it sings a
song titled “wash, wash, wash your hands” that can keep us entertained and at the same time
reminds us to wash properly and nicely.
