 INTRODUCTION

Cleaning plays a vital role in our daily existence. Personal hygiene, such as covering our
mouths when we cough or washing our hands before eating, or setting a norm for environmental
cleanliness is an effective cleaning layer of defense against infectious illnesses and viruses. They
assist us in maintaining our health, taking good care of our houses and valuables, and improving
the aesthetics of our surroundings by safely and effectively removing dirt, bacteria, and other
impurities. Cleaning and disinfecting on a regular basis can effectively get rid of allergies and
bacteria, preventing infections and fostering well-being. But cleaning can cost a lot of time, and
sometimes cost a lot of money. There are also instances where people, mostly employees, do not
have time to do their own cleaning, as they are busy with their respective jobs. They can
probably hire a housekeeper or book a house cleaning service, but these things are very
inconvenient since they have to be left home, and as a owner, you would be upset knowing that
there are people inside your house. That is why, the researcher decided to make a step on making
the everyday lives of employed people be convenient when it comes to cleaning. And this
cleaning service would be much different, because it would be needing the help of solar panels.

Solar panel is a device that absorbs the sun’s energy to be used as a generator for electricity and
heating. As climate change and global warming threaten the future of our planet, it is becoming
increasingly crucial to find sustainable ways to fulfill our energy requirements. One of the most
efficient ways of moving towards renewable and non-polluting energy sources is to generate
electricity using solar panels to harness the sun’s energy. Since they have no moving parts, solar
panels are one of the most cost-effective and low-maintenance ways of generating. Despite all
their benefits, the efficiency of solar panels can plummet if dust, dirt, and grime are allowed to
accumulate. If maximum efficiency in power generation is to be maintained, solar panels need to
be cleaned timely. However, manually cleaning solar panels is hazardous and time-consuming.
Therefore, the researcher has designed a tool that would be cost-effective for cleaning, a Solar
Powered Cleaning Robot. This Solar Panel Cleaning Robot aims to maintain the efficiency of
solar power production by making sure the Solar panels are kept clean without putting humans at
risk.

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

The working solar powered cleaning robots are widely used to clean solar panels because
of their flexibility and high efficiency. According to Riawan et al. (2018), the shift away from a
traditional way of life is a reflection of industrialization in today's society into modern one.
Rapid technological growth provides evidence of the change. These days, using robots penetrates
every element of daily life, including both work and leisure. Robots have aided humanity in their
daily lives, activities and their application assists human activity in lowering the accident rate.
The following types of tasks are appropriate for robots: jobs that are tiresome, risky, and dull,
like cleaning solar panels. In recent years, solar panel cleaning robots have gradually developed
and replaced manual cleaning. However, gravity is a challenge for cleaning robots on inclined
solar panels, and robots have problems such as high working power and short battery life. This
paper aims to develop the following robot to improve the working time and efficiency of the
cleaning robot.

The main topic of the study is if the researchers can show that it is more convenient to use Solar
Powered Cleaning Robots for houses and any other areas that need cleaning. The purpose of the
Solar Powered Cleaning Robot is to eliminate dust and dirt in houses and provide a real cleaning
to reduce the risk of health problems and to help us to save our time.

HISTORY OF THE PROBLEM

The robot cleaner has a history of 25 years since its birth. In 1996, the first robot cleaner
came out, and its name was called 'electrolux trilobite'. It was manufactured by Electrolux, a
Swedish manufacturer of household and professional electrical appliances at the time, and was
officially mass produced to the market in 2001. The trilobite sweeping robot uses ultrasound to
detect and avoid obstacles while helping it build a map of the room. In fact, the first-generation
trilobite sweeping robot could not avoid some obstacles very well. The infrared sensor was
added to the second-generation version, which greatly improved its ability to avoid obstacles.
However, before use, magnetic strips must be attached to the door and the end of the stairs as an
invisible wall to prevent the robot from moving forward and prevent the robot from falling or
entering other spaces by mistake. The "Trilobite" sweeping robot can run for 60 minutes each
time it is charged. It operates in three gears: normal, fast and spot cleaning. When the vacuum
cleaner is full of garbage, it will also emit a light warning. It is only 13 cm high and can be
cleaned under the table and bed. Since its cleaning process is completely automatic, users can
leave it at home to clean the room, thereby freeing up a lot of rest time. In September 2002,
iRobot made an important milestone in the history of sweeping robots. iRobot launched the
Roomba series of sweeping robots. Since its launch, the iRobot Roomba series of sweeping
robots are still active on the market and are well received by consumers. The greatest impact of
Roomba series sweepers on the sweeper industry is its patented invention-the three-stage
sweeping structure. The three-stage cleaning structure is the cleaning structure of "side brush +
rolling brush + dust suction port". Compared with other two-stage cleaning structure products,
the key point is to add a V between the side brush and the dust suction port. The purpose of the
roller brush is to sweep up the dust that is adsorbed on the ground by static electricity through the
high-speed rotation of the roller brush. The cleaning ability is better than that of a vacuum
cleaner to a certain extent.

Looking back on the development history of robot vacuum cleaners, from the initial
“pseudo-intelligence”, “poor cleaning ability”, and “high prices” to the current “intelligent
planning” and “intelligent connection”, the technology of vacuum cleaners has become more and
more mature and more popular.

 Consumers favor, but they co plain of increasing the energy and electricity consumption
as the robot cleaner needs to be charged through electricity. That is why many people stop using
the robot cleaner, but what are the things that people can get if they stop cleaning their houses?

According to a study conducted by Emily Adams, a dirty house is not just an unpleasant
place to live; it can be hazardous to your health. The more dust and grime you have in your
home, the greater risk of developing allergies and other respiratory problems such as asthma.

It also means that you are at increased risk of developing lung disease or even cancer if
carcinogens are present in the home. Gross filth, soot, and grime are breeding grounds for
harmful bacteria which can cause illnesses such as salmonella, E Coli, or even Legionnaires’
disease. Dirty homes also hurt your mood, with high-stress levels reported by many people
working to clean their houses.

For instance, a study published in "Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin," found
that women who described their living spaces as cluttered or full of unfinished projects were
more likely to be fatigued and depressed than women who described their homes as restful and
restorative. Researchers also found that the women with messy or cluttered homes had higher
levels of cortisol. A clean home also impacts your physical health. According to a study by
NiCole Keith, PhD, a research scientist and professor at Indiana University, people with clean
houses tend to be healthier than those with messy or cluttered homes. In fact, cleanliness was
even more a predictor of good health than the walkability of a neighborhood.

After the invention of the solar cell, solar technology reached the skies by implementing solar
panels that use the solar energy to generate electrical energy. Renewable energy is used in all the
industries and they use huge solar panels in more numbers in the form of an array. On the other
hand it has also started playing a major role in household usage. Now the problem with the
implementation of solar panels is their maintenance.

 The attention is now focused on utilizing and developing renewable and sustainable
energy sources because producing power through conventional techniques is an expensive
procedure and has a negative impact on the environment. Solar-based energy is the most widely
used renewable energy source. The effectiveness of solar systems would depend on how well
their glass covers could transmit sunlight across the collection surface. Solar cells in the solar
system convert solar energy into electricity.

The mechanical, electrical, and electronic components of the solar robot use electrical energy
that is extracted from the batteries to power a variety of tasks for both industrial and commercial
labor. Robots are very accurate and can work in dangerous environments for extended periods of
time without human assistance.They assist us in maintaining our health, taking good care of our
houses and valuables, and improving the aesthetics of our surroundings by safely and effectively
removing dirt, bacteria, and other impurities. Cleaning and disinfecting on a regular basis can
effectively get rid of allergies and bacteria, preventing infections and fostering well-being.

 BODY SECTION ONE

EXTENT OF THE PROBLEM

What has happened?

Recently, as the demand for cleaning robots has steadily increased, therefore household
electricity consumption is also increasing. To solve this electricity consumption issue, the
problem of efficient planning for cleaning robots has become important and many studies have
been conducted. However, According to Computer Science Robotic, there are ways to decrease
the consumption of electricity by using a cleaning robot. The best way they mention is to use a
device that can be attached to a cleaning robot that generates electricity, which is the Solar
Panels. The use of Solar panels will decrease the electricity consumption of the people who use
it. That is why, why should not use it in cleaning robots in order to solve the problem in
electricity consumption?

As accumulation of dust on the PV panel reduces its transmittance which results in the reduction
of the power output, thus resulting in loss of power generation. This particular problem is also
responsible for the short life span of many interplanetary exploration missions such as Mars
Exploration Mission of Curiosity Rover as the power output from their solar panel reduces over
time because of the accumulation of dust. At a point of time the density of dust increases to a
level where power output declines to the extent which is not able to support its vital functions.
Further this problem has also resulted in huge losses for the solar power plant operators which
suffer from reduced power output because of frequent dust storms. Most widely used method of
cleaning the solar panels is through manual labor. Apart from being time taking and
cumbersome, there is also a risk of damage to the expensive solar panels by the unskilled labor
which is involved in this method. The purpose of this project is to develop a semi-automatic self-
cleaning mechanism for cleaning the solar panel so that the process can become more reliable
and fast, thus increasing the power output of the solar power plant. Solar power is a sustainable,

reliable, and clean energy source. The national and local governments have recently stepped up
their encouraged photovoltaic power generation, and China is seeing an increase in the installed
capacity of this technology by a big margin annually (Zhang et al. 2017). A crucial photovoltaic
power generation tool is the solar panel generation. It is very crucial to ensure power generation
effectiveness and absorb as much sun rays as possible for solar panel cleaning (Bernard, 2018).

The technology for solar panel cleaning equipment is not yet developed, and the cost is pricey,
and it does not clean very effectively. The precise utilization of the produced products still has a
number of issues. Given this circumstance, the solar panel cleaning robot's structure and shape
are ingeniously created, with a focus on used to address the real-world issues with product usage.
That is why we have to be aware of this problem and have the knowledge that apart from being
precise and consistent, robots can work in any environment, adding to their flexibility. Robots
eliminate dangerous jobs for humans because they are capable of working in hazardous
environments. They can handle lifting heavy loads, toxic substances and repetitive tasks.

Why should we be concerned?

A number of environmental factors such as wind speed, humidity, ambient temperature,

solar radiation, atmospheric dust and direction influence the power generation process using
installed solar photovoltaic modules. Dust build-up on the solar module surface is an issue of
great worry, particularly in desert provinces where infrequent to regular dust storms do occur.
The glass cover transmittance decreases because of accretion of dust on the surface of the PV
module, which ultimately decreases the amount of solar irradiation reaching the cells.

Technology continues to be evolving and people should be concerned about it because

technology brings convenience to the world people now live in. It helps to reduce the use of
manpower to do labors, especially the cleaning. Technology has produced different tools and
devices for the people, it is its purpose. One of them is the robot. Robots are used in multiple
areas, especially where they can alleviate strenuous tasks or complete missions that are
dangerous for a human to undertake. Recent advances in robotics and AI are revolutionizing
business, society and our personal lives. Apart from being precise and consistent, robots can

work in any environment, adding to their flexibility. Robots eliminate dangerous jobs for humans
because they are capable of working in hazardous environments. They can handle lifting heavy
loads, toxic substances and repetitive tasks. This has helped companies to prevent many
accidents, also saving time and money. In the medical field robots are used for intricate surgeries
such as prostate cancer surgery. Robots are able to reach and fit where human hands cannot,
allowing greater accuracy. Robotic benefits in the medical field can be less invasive procedures
and reduce pain for the patient when recovering.

What are robots used for in industry?

Typical applications of robots include welding, painting, assembly, disassembly, pick and place
for printed circuit boards, packaging and labeling, palletizing, product inspection, and testing; all
accomplished with high endurance, speed, and precision. They can assist in material handling.
Industrial cleaning robots are typically mobile, application-specific robots that automate
industrial cleaning processes. These robots automate routine, dangerous or dirty work for the
sake of safety and efficiency. Industrial robots are able to accomplish jobs precisely and
repeatedly without the need for interruptions or stoppages. Robots are extremely productive
thanks to their capacity to work continually without getting tired, which can help producers get a
speedy return on their investment. Robotic precision also means fewer production-related
mistakes are made, which frequently translates into less waste and lower production costs.
Since robots don't need as much room as people do, businesses can better utilize their floor space
to accommodate more goods or production lines. For instance, large aisleways that were initially
designed for human use can be narrowed to provide the bare minimum of clearance needed for a
robot to walk.

That is why we should be more concerned because robots are very beneficial. It is very
significant to the cleaning as this study is about the cleaning robot. People have to adapt to the
modern world where technology has been prevailing.

 A. Who is Affected?
The question of who is affected in consideration lies behind the lack of manpower and
behind the knowledge that can be obtained from this case study about the Solar Powered
Cleaning Robot. This part will discuss the effects in the following example. And it is
enumerated as follows:

1.1 Employed citizens. People who tend to have a job in one house will have their job
more quickly and stable, with the help of a cleaning robot they can make their work more
accurate and fast. They are the first on the list that would be affected because they are the ones
who are mostly not able to do cleaning tasks on their houses because they need to go to their
respective jobs. That is why they need this solar powered cleaning robot for convenience.
According to the Clean My Space CT Organization, Most people do not clean their homes
because they don’t have time. Their schedules are filled with full-time jobs, extra activities,
taking care of their children, social gatherings, etc. The spare time that they might have will be
allocated for resting. For most, getting enough rest is more important than a clean space.

1.2 Senior Citizens. Many seniors prefer to remain at home as they age. After all, their
home is comfortable and familiar, and remaining there allows them to maintain a sense of
independence. Unfortunately, common household chores can become exceedingly difficult for
the elderly. A maid service company may be indispensable in this situation. But there is actually
another way of cleaning homes for elderly without hiring a housekeeper or a maid. Home
cleaning services may enable a senior citizen to maintain their independence and stay in their
home for a much longer time. Because of the services of a professional cleaner, the resident and
their family can rest assured that conditions in the home are clean and safe. This gives everyone
involved peace of mind. It isn’t easy for anyone to admit, but aging takes a physical toll. All of
these factors may make it difficult for an older person to run a vacuum cleaner, reach top shelves
for dusting or to move heavy objects out of the way for better cleaning.

 2. STORY

2.1 Employed Citizen story. I have interviewed an employed woman named Juanita who works
in Mariveles, Bataan and is always busy with her work and spends most of her time on her job
more than her house. Her family is also busy as her son lives in his dormitory in Balanga, City,
Bataan, and her husband is also working. Therefore, they have no time to stay in their house due
to their busy schedule. As they lack time staying in their house, they also have no time doing
household chores such as cooking, washing clothes, doing dishes and of course, cleaning their
house. As a result, they can’t keep their house as before because of their busy schedule. Their
family once hired a housekeeper but they fired her immediately as the housekeeper committed
something that made their trust to lose. That is why, it became a trauma for them to hire a
housekeeper because of that happening. They had no choice but to always leave and lock their
house when they were working. However, they still keep on thinking of another way to maintain
the cleanliness of their house without hiring someone just like a housekeeper. But their family
couldn’t really find any solution for their problem. As they know that the only way to maintain
their house is to hire real people that can provide manpower for the sake of their home.
Regardless of how, the problem of Juanita’s family will have a solution through the use of a
Solar Powered Cleaning Robot. The working solar powered cleaning robots are widely used to
clean solar panels because of their flexibility and high efficiency. That is why they don’t need to
hire a housekeeper anymore because this Solar powered cleaning robot will do the cleaning itself
without the use of manpower.

The researcher decided to make a step on making the everyday lives of employed people
be convenient when it comes to cleaning. And this cleaning service would be much different,
because it would be needing the help of solar panels. This is a designed tool that would be cost-
effective for cleaning. This solar powered cleaning robot never gets bored or distracted, and they
don’t mind cleaning every day. So with very little effort on your part, they will keep your house
constantly tidy. This cleaning robot is economical and cost-efficient. They are much cheaper
than expensive housekeepers. The machine can be set to clean exactly as required, while
requiring little maintenance. Your only job is to place them in a place that hits the sun in order
for them to charge.

A. CAUSE AND EFFECT

Because of this problem, this has happened…

Keeping your house clean does more than keep you happy; it keeps you healthy. While it
can be tedious work, house cleaning can be very important. You experience happiness and
calmness, which reduces tension and anxiety. In addition to making you happy, a clean home is
good for your health.

Cleaning has always been necessary on a daily basis in the home. However, it can be challenging
to maintain your home occasionally tidy when you are always juggling the demands of daily life.
You discover that you put off cleaning for days—or even weeks and months. You are now
confronted by the thick grease and stiff filth that had unavoidably gathered over time.

Because of this problem, this has happened to many people as follows:

A. REPERCUSSION OF THE PROBLEM

If we don’t solve this problem, this will happen…

If we can’t solve this problem many people will become sick at a time and can deal with costly
maintenance in the hospital to have our self healed. If you don’t keep up with chores, you’ll
quickly find your home to be a disaster area. You could discover your safe place infested with
mold and dust mites. Here are a few things that can happen if you stop cleaning your home
regularly.

● YOUR HOUSE WILL STINK

If your house begins to accumulate filth, it’ll start to stink. Dirty spaces are smelly,
especially if garbage piles up in a space. As you continue to live in your unkempt home,
the stench will quickly seep into your clothes, your bed, and even your hair.

● DUST MITES WILL AFFECT YOU

Dust seems to be a foe that’s impossible to fight. Even if you dust regularly, it can seem

mood, and in extreme cases depression.

Does a clean house make you happier? In most cases, yes. A bad living space can make
us feel unmotivated, unclean, and overwhelmed, which will take a toll on our overall
mood and mental well-being. This poor mood may lead to deeper mental health
conditions. And we’ve mentioned a lot about the things that can grow in your home
without regular cleaning. A lot of these things can cause ill effects on our physical health
too.

 BODY SECTION THREE POSSIBLE SOLUTION

WHAT WILL WORK

By ensuring that the house floors are kept clean while posing no risk to people, our Solar
Panel Cleaning Robot seeks to preserve the effectiveness of the solar powered cleaning robot
itself. This robot comes equipped with a roller brush and a water sprayer to clean all dirt and
grime from the surface of the floors. The sprayer gets its supply of water through an onboard
tank. The rubber caterpillar tracks ensure that this robot can adhere to the slick surface of solar

pump along with 4x DC motors to achieve vehicle motion using caterpillar wheel motion. The
robotic vehicle is built over a metal chassis with a controller circuitry operated over RF wireless
remote.

A remote controller is used to wirelessly transmit control movement data to the robotic vehicle.
The controller receives the data and operates the wheel motors in desired directions to achieve
the desired movement. The front brush is fixed to the main chassis front and operated by a
geared DC motor. The front panel also has an integrated water pipe that is used to drive water for
cleaning using a dc pump to the front of the brush. The system thus allows for easy solar panel
cleaning using wireless control.
