Fast fashion, a new way of contamination or fashion?

Fast fashion industry is damaging the world with all of its textile waste. As we all
know, fashion trends change every single day, causing companies to start producing
accessible clothes with the trends that are fashionable. This means fast fashion is focused on
changing consumers' tastes as quickly as possible. In our opinion, although fast fashion can be
very fashionable, it is terrible because it generates a vast environmental impact, and because
clothes are made with low-quality materials.

One of the downsides of Fast fashion is that clothing production stands for 10% of global
CO2 emissions, and it is estimated that 73% of the clothes produced annually end up
incinerated, which contributes to atmospheric and terrestrial pollution. Also, only 5% of
clothing is recycled. It is worth mentioning that, Fast fashion generates a large discharge of
polluted water; 2,700 liters of water are needed to make just one cotton shirt.

Another reason that makes Fast Fashion bad is that its clothes are created to last for a season;
while the style is fashionable; that’s why they are made with a lack of thickness, which makes
the clothes less durable because they can get damaged and ripped more easily. Fast fashion is
also based on low-quality materials and short shelf life, with the goal of forcing the buyer to
buy again, generating a cycle of consumerism. In addition, clothes are treated with harsh
chemicals and dyes which might cause rashes or even cancer.

Fast fashion is a very good way of staying fashionable and not feeling out of place with our
old clothes, but we must always keep in mind how bad it is for the Earth, since as we have
mentioned before, Fast fashion starts its cycle of pollution since its production, finishes off
with is its low-quality, lack of thickness and short life materials. That is why we are fully
convinced that people should buy clothes until they have finished what they already have.
