Pillars of Iman

There are six pillars of Iman which are the first, belief in Allah the Almighty, second,
belief in the angels of Allah, third, belief in the books of Allah, fourth, belief in the prophets of
Allah, fifth, belief in the Day of Judgement, and sixth and the last is, belief in good and evil
fortune. Hence, the pillars of Iman and the basis of Islamic aqidah are the same. These six pillars
of Iman are the complete faith foundation in Islam, and every true believer must believe in all
pillars of imān according to the Holy Quran and the Hadith guidance. Taimiyah (2013) states that
a person who refuses any of these articles is not considered a true Muslim.

Khalil and Muslim (1992 and 2007) emphasized that the person who denies any
foundation of these foundations will consider a disbeliever or that his or her belief of Iman is not
complete. Khalil (1992) states that all of these belief pillars have been mentioned in the
Prophetic saying called Hadith Jibril, while Jibril came to the Prophet and asked him about Iman
and he said, “that belief in Allah, His angels, His books, His prophets, the belief in Judgement
Day and belief in predestination by Allah the Almighty of all things, both the seemingly good
and the seemingly bad.” (Vol. 1, P. 36, No. 8)

)177 : 2 ‫)سورة البقرة‬

Which means:

“…Rather, the righteous are those who believe in Allah, the Last Day, the angels,
the Books, and the prophets…”

(Surah Al-Baqarah 2 : 177)

The angel Jibril asked the Prophet Muhammad, what is faith? The Prophet Muhammad replied:

“Iman is belief in Allah, His Angels, His Messengers, the Unseen, belief (in) His books,
belief in the day of judgment, and belief in the good and bad of Qadar (Divine decree).”

(Narrated by Al-Bukhari)
In conclusion, the pillars of Iman is a must for all believers to completely have full faith
in this pillars of Iman for their Iman to be completed.
