7 APPENDIX - A ………………………………………………………………. 18
2.5 Catwalks :
Catwalks are the means to have access from one dolphin to the other or to the service
platform. Each catwalk comprises a space frame with two top chord and one bottom chord
connected by inclined bracing. Horizontal top ties are provided between two top chords
which serve as supports to two longitudinal walkway beams. These two longitudinal beams
ultimately support the walkway grating. Top level of grating will be +19.5m CD. One end
of this catwalk will be pinned while the other will be on roller.
3.3 Waves :
Following wave parameters for operational and extreme condition will be considered
3.4 Currents :
Near surface : 3.2 m/s
Mid depth : 1.5 m/s
Near bottom : 0.9 m/s
A generalized soil profile at the Approach Trestle area has been attached in Appendix – A.

shoreline engineering”, 1991.
Wherever design criteria/ technical specification codes and standards differ from each other, the
order of priority shall be as follows:
Reinforcement Bar
Fy – 415 N/mm2
Subject to the approval of owner Fy 500 may be used.
Pretension Steel
Breaking Stress – 1860 N/mm2
Nominal diameter – 15.7 mm
Nominal Area – 150 mm2
Structural Steel
Minimum yield stress – 250 N/mm2
However, EPC contractor may use higher grade steel of yield stress - 355 N/mm2.
Steel Piles
Minimum yield stress – 386 N/mm2
API 5L X 56 grade, confirming to API spec. 2B
4.7 Scour :
Following scour allowances will be considered in design.
NOTE : To be finalized.
Cathodic Protection
Based on the specifications in the Bid document and the project documentations, the
following parameters shall be considered in the design calculation
The EPC contractor shall do the required investigations and surveys to obtain information
required for the purpose of the design. However, for the ready reference of the EPC
contractor, Parameter for the existing marine facilities CP system design are reproduced as
below
Painting
All steel surfaces in the splash zone and atmospheric zone ( above – 2.0m) shall be
painted in accordance with the painting specification of the bid document. Areas and
joints that are inaccessible for maintenance and thereby susceptible to corrosion shall be
suitably sealed by methods such as boxing with plates.
• Ductility Detailing :
All RCC frame members including piles shall be detailed according to the provision IS
13290-1993. For main reinforcement of diameter 25 mm and above, stirrups / lateral
ties shall be minimum 10 mm diameter.
• Crack Control :
All structural elements shall be checked for stresses for load combinations 2a & 2b of
Table 1 & Table 2 using working stress method. The stresses in reinforcement on
tension side shall be limited to 165 N/mm2 unless the structure is checked against the
formation of cracks. The assessed surface width of cracks at points nearest to the main
reinforcement should not exceed 0.004 times the cover to the main reinforcement. (Ref
– IS 4651 part - 4 : 1989)
• Deflection :
The criteria deflection shall be so limited that it should not produce difficulties in
serviceability conditions nor shall it cause damage to the structures and pipe lines
supported on trestle, unloading platform and its components.
The maximum deflection of walk way bridge / catwalks shall be limited to L/350 in
operation condition with live loads. L be the distance between the supports of span.
Following minimum live loads shall be considered in the design of the structures.
Unloading platform
Live load due to piping.
10 kN/m2 UDL in area not occupied by piping on both lower deck and upper
deck.
• Lower deck (except the area below upper deck) shall be checked for Class A
loading with impact factor of 25%. While examining the effects of Class A /
crane loading, the remaining area shall be assumed to be covered by UDL
(piping/live load ).
• 5 kN/m2 UDL on stair cases.
Approach trestle
• Piping loads.
• IRC class A or 200 kN tire mounted crane whichever is more critical.
• UDL of 10 kN/m2 or class A loading or Crane load on roadway deck. While
examining the effects of Class A / crane loading as per IRC, the remaining
area shall be assumed to be covered by UDL..
Control Building
• Roof 0.75 kN/m2
• Floor 2.5 kN/m2
Hand railing
• In stairways bellow deck level (wave ZONE) the handrails and supports shall be
designed to withstand a lateral or vertical concentrated load of kn applied at any
point of the handrails in the wave zone shall also be designed to withstand
extreme storm maximum wave loading. Handrail above deck level ( unloading
platform, access trestle and port craft jetty)shall be designed to withstand a lateral
or vertical concentrated load of 1 kN applied at any point of the handrails.
Following Operational and survival criteria and combinations will be considered for computing
wave force on piles.
Vessel Moored on the Jetty ( Operational) :
Hs = 2.8 m; basic Wind Speed = 30 m/s; Storm Surge = 1.4m
HHWS = 10.2 + 1.4 = +11.6 m CD
MSL : 5.1 + 1.4 = +6.5 m CD
Jetty
Category : III => multiplication factor 0.25
Horizontal acceleration factor-αh = multiplication factor X acceleration [m/s2]
Vertical acceleration factor-αv = 2/3 X αh [m/s2]
Horizontal and vertical acceleration factor ( time period of approximately 0.2 sec ) as shown
in table below.

Seismic force shall be calculated for 50% of the design live load.
Fendering system
The Berthing energies shall be calculated based on BS6349:part4 ( 1994) and PIANC WG
33 (2002)- using an approach velocity of 0.15m/s and quarter point berthing under a 100
approach angle and a hull pressure of 150 kN/m2. A safety factor for abnormal berthing of
1.5 shall be applied on the calculated energy. Furhtur considerations for bad weather
conditions in terms of high wave, wind and current velocity shall be adopted while selecting
the fender.
The analysis shall take into account all environmental (operational/extreme) and imposed loads
including load due to piping etc. Following basic load combination shall be considered for design.
Load combination 1 : Extreme storm condition with empty equivalent + operating piping load
Load combination 2 : operating storm condition with full live loads and operating equipment
and piping load
The following approach directions shall be considered for load combinations 1 & 2.
Approach Trestle
Wind & Wave 180o 225o
Corresponding Current 180o 180o
Angles are measured clockwise from North direction e.g. 180o means approach from south
direction.
