Note: The definition of kindergarten readiness is 50 th percentile or higher on NWEA MAP assessments.
The figures are the percentage of Battle Creek Public Schools’ kindergarteners who attain 50th percentile
or higher on NWEA MAP fall assessments. R&M combined is the average for reading and mathematics.

The kindergarten readiness rate has increased from 15.5% (reading and mathematics combined)
in 2013-14 to 51.2% in 2022-23 when kindergartners entered the Battle Creek Public Schools in
Fall, more than tripled over a 10-year span. This is an indication that the investments in Battle
Creek early care and education (ECE) system have worked.
