PROMOTION
Kaur: I highly recommend reading the short story as it gives readers an idea on how to solve one of the
biggest problems our current society is facing right now and that is gender inequality. With lots of people
right now having a generalized view on genders, others are having a hard time speaking up for
themselves. But for our main character Lucia, she has not only endured her hellish days in becoming an
astronomer, she had also proved everyone who doubted her wrong by showing her strengths.

ISSUES OF THE STORY

Pavia: The main issue in the short story is the society being patriarchal. In the later half of the story, it
emphasized how the society Lucia lives in treats women, very little to no care at all for them. This can be
seen when Mr. Pavia, her senior, would bump her, and that time when Galileo had little expectations for
Lucia to do good on her research.

Sanchez: The other issue in the story is a minor one, the attitude of Lucia’s mother. Lucia’s mother has
always been very strict to her ever since she was born. And to add to her strictness, the patriarchal
society had stained the mindset of Lucia’s mother, not even allowing her daughter to freely choose her
path to the future.

THEORIES USED TO ANALYZE THE STORY

Reyes: (Feminism Analysis)

Gelacio: (Historical-Biographical Analysis)

SUMMARIZATION OF THE BODY

Kaur: In conclusion to what we’ve discussed earlier, the short story focuses on the tale of a girl who is
struggling to gain what she wants because of the society. Even the society had influenced her mother,
affecting her judgement and not allowing her daughter to do what she truly wants. In terms of literary
criticism, the story used feminism and historical-biographical analysis since it shows emphasis on the
struggles of the main character as a female and soon becoming a historical figure in the future.
LESSON
Veluz: Reading the short story teaches us that equality among genders is important, that gender is not a
basis for greatness. We should stop having biases towards or against certain types of genders because
either male or female or any other genders have the capabilities of achieving big things in life.
