Inquiry Question: What nutrients are best to consume for specific physical injuries?

1) Capstone Project Summary:

In the box below, please type out a 200 – 300 word explanation of what you are planning to do with
your capstone project. It should be as specific as possible, detailing what you have to accomplish.
For my capstone project, I am planning on making a cookbook in which includes recipes that are high in a
specific nutrients. The reason for this is because I'm going to have an information section on multiple
physical related problems that athletes face and the nutrients they should consume for a fast and healthy
recovery. To accomplish this, I must first research common physical issues athletes face. I will review
multiple websites and videos explaining these and will record this information as it will be included in a
section of the cookbook (most likely the beginning). From here, I will research the necessary nutrients that
should be consumed when a physical issue is present. This will also be done by researching websites and
YouTube videos online. With this information, I will create a drink and meal based on one of the nutrients.
This will require lots of research into what to cook as I am not capable of cooking everything since this is
also a skill, I don’t have much experience of and would like to gain. After choosing and deciding with
recipes I want to make, I will pick a certain number of recipes that I would like to make a video on. In order
to create a video that will be clear and entertaining, I must also research how to do this – most likely from
YouTube.

2) Core Competencies:
In the boxes below, explain how your project will demonstrates your abilities and skills from each
section of the Core Competencies. (You must choose at least two points from each skill area of the
core competencies.)

Core Competency: How you demonstrate it in your Capstone Project:

Personal Awareness & Self-Determination
Responsibility - I am personally responsible, self-motivated, and can advocate for
myself: I am able to work hard and complete tasks by being
organized and prioritizing work I know is important.
Self-Regulation
- I understand learning takes patience and time: In terms of
learning how to cook and researching information, I am aware
this is a work that doesn’t just come naturally which is why I
understand I will need patience and time.
Social Responsibility Solving problems in peaceful ways
- I can identify and appreciate different perspectives on issues and
use and evaluate strategies to resolve problems: when doing a
cookbook, many issues will come as I progress. From previous
projects, I know that I am able to resolve these issues by further
researching what is wrong.
Building relationships
- I have positive peer and intergenerational relationships: I have
many relationships in which I can go to for help when needed.
Critical Thinking Analyze and Critique

proofread my work, I am effectively able to analyze and critique it
by editing and adding things in order to improve my work.

3) Rationale/context: Detail your reasons for choosing this inquiry question.

Explain WHY you are choosing to investigate this topic as a major area of focus. How does this area of inquiry
connect to your passion(s), purpose? Why is it of personal interest to you?

I am choosing to investigate this topic as a major area of focus because I am an athlete myself and have
experienced multiple physical issues. Many of these times, I don't have concrete knowledge on what
nutrients to consume and when I do, I usually don’t have many meal options. This is a major reason why it’s
a personal interest of mine. Additionally, I want to expand my cooking experience and learn how to cook
using different ingredients.
4 ) Background: What background knowledge / connections / prior learning do you have that can help
you to be successful with your project?

In terms of experience, as an athlete myself, I have gone to a nutrition meeting with my soccer team in
which went over foods I should be eating. This prior knowledge will help me when researching
ingredients and meals. I don’t have much experience cooking with ingredients I'm not familiar with, so,
my grandma will be very helpful as she can teach me how to cook and I’m able to ask her questions.

5) Career connections: What is your intended career area at this point in time? What connections does
this inquiry question have to your life, academic and/ or career goals? What are you hoping to gain from
completing this project (other than graduating or passing CLC 12)?

My intended career at this point in time Is business, while pursuing soccer at the university. This inquiry
question will help me recover from injuries that I may get from playing later on. In general, I'm hoping
to gain a variety of information about foods to eat in order to recover and obtain the ability to cook
with more ingredients and create more meals. This is a lifelong skill that I would like to one day have.

6) Capstone Presentation medium: select one or more project mediums you wish to use to present your
project. Outline and give details about how you will present your project once completed. You may use a
combination of mediums.

o Electronic portfolio: Power Point, Canva or Prezi

o Physical portfolio

o i-movie presentation

o Other
To present my cookbook, I will create it in the form of a physical portfolio that will be properly organized.
Additionally, in order to present my cooking videos, I will use I-movie to create and present it.
