HISTORY OF MAIGO NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL

In the early years of the 1990’s the people of the municipality of Maigo and its nearby places faced
an extreme crisis on secondary education due to the enormous number of Elementary graduates from outside
the municipality of Maigo. The Maigo School of Arts and Trades could no longer accommodate the great
increase of students’ population when it started concentrating on tertiary education limiting their secondary
enrollees for laboratory purpose only their normal courses.

The Maigo Municipal Council or Sangguniang Bayan members were made fully aware of this
situation that July 29,2992, on motion of the late kagawad Norberto P. Badelles and duly seconded by
Kagawad Romulo C. Santos and approved unanimously by all the SB members present in perfect
attendance, Resolution No. 92, series of 1992,requesting for the establishment for a Junior Barangay High
School, was passed. The session was presided by then vice Mayor Hon. Oseas A. Gravino and was
immediately approved by Hon. Mayor Perlita P. Libardeos . The objective was to cater to the educational
needs of the people of Maigo ,especially the yoing ones in the town and its nearby places who could not
afford to enroll in private institutions.

Another resolution authored by Kagawad Romulo C. Santos was then passed requesting for the
Local Finance officer through the office of Municipal Mayor Perlita P. Libardos to appropriate funds for a
new high school. The local government officials especially the SB members agreed to have their honoraria
deducted with an amount to finance the initial salary of P700.00 per month for the teachers and to the rest to
be completed when the national funding through DBM be given upon approval of the inclusion of the
budget. Listed below are the SB members who made sacrifices for the sake of the opening of the new high
school:

1. Hon. Oseas A. Gravino : Vice Mayor

2. Hon. Rolulo C. Santos : Kagawad
3. Hon. Norberto P. Badelles : Kagawad
4. Hon. Noel S. Enriquez : Kagawad
5. Hon. Elmer R. Ramos : Kagawad
6. Hon. Cristita D. Batucan : Kagawad
7. Hon. Anacleto G. Labastilla : Kagawad
8. Hon. Edilberto C. Undag Sr. : Kagawad
9. Hon. Melania C. ramos : ABC President
10. Hon. Eric D. Macondara : SK President

Likewise ,the late Superintendent of the Maigoof Arts and trades, Maximo B. Aqaviva Sr. donated
one (1) hectare of land from the MSAT property to the municipality of Maigo through Hon. Mayor Perlita P.
Libardos which was also a donation from the Becoy family ( Mr. & Mrs. Victoriano Becoy & Children ) of
Labu-ay, Maigo, Lanao del Norte to provide a space for the construction of the building of the new high
school. This is the very place where the present Maigo National High School buildings are located.

The new high school was formally opened as Maigo Municipal High School on June 07, 1993
offering First year level with two sections and mentored by four locally funded pioneering teachers in SY
1993-1994 whose classes were temporarily held at the Maigo District Learning Center now known as the
District Library Hub. The first batch of pioneering teachers of two sections holding classes in the Maigo
District Learning Center were:

1. Mr. Felizardo P. Panes

2. Mrs. Aida C. Boreros
3. Mrs. Elvira P. Tadlas
4. Mrs. Sonora C. Pallar

Among the four ,Mr. Felizardo P. panes was the one appointed as the Administrator/ Acting principal
to manage the formation of the early stage of the new high school.

Then in S.Y. 1994-1995,the new high school opened its Second year level to accommodate its very
own freshmen and more First year enrollees from other schools ( from 138-330 students) So,another wave of
teachers co-pioneered Maigo National High School to the previous four. They were:

5. Mrs Marita N. Relatado

6. Ms. Maria Fe. S. Nival
7. Mrs. Tita O. Antigoo
8. Mr. Maiko C. Simban
9. Ms. Violeta Bajelot- a Volunteer

The new enrollees occupied the natural ground line of Gabaldon Building at the Maigo Central
School Building utilizing bamboo and coconut slabs as divisions; round timbers for benches and tables in
the classrooms. Some were having classes under the shade of the star apple tree, others were on the stage.

The very amazing increase of enrollees every year encouraged the SB members headed by : Hon.
Norberto P. Badelles to pass a resolution to the national government through Congressman Mariano Llunch
Badelles to covert Maigo Municipal High School into Maigo National High School . After several readings
at the House of Congress and the Senate, it was finally approved on June 03, 1994 through R.A. 7732. The
school administrator Mr. Felizardo P. Panes followed personally and regularly the corresponding changes
especially in the completion of the Faculty’s salaries together with the administrative staff. More buildings
were built to cope with the increasing enrollees.

On June 1995, the school opened as Maigo National High School and the more its enrollment
continuously increase. The school has successfully turned out its 17 batches of graduates who are productive
in each of their filed of chosen endeavors here in the Philippines and abroad.

Our present administrator, Mrs. Francisca S. Larin is happy and proud to inform the community that
from 138 enrollees in S.Y. 1993-1994 it has soared up to 1,993 Junior High School students including the
enrollees of the Senior High Schools.

With due respect and admiration, I will read the past administrators who in one way or another
struggled to develop our school into its progressive stability.

2. Mrs. Tita F. Tubongbanua
3. Mrs. Lourdes C. Aquino
4. Mr. Alberto C. Antiampo
5. Mr. Bobolito H. Recesio

unforgettable and immeasurable contribution to the Maigo National High School for making it a little
colossus of education here in Maigo, Lanao del Norte .
