1. INTEGERS

Student Information

Name :

Class : VII

Section :

Roll No. :

Name of the school :

Name of the Chapter : INTEGERS

Title of the project : Representation of integers on a number line.

Aim of the project : Addition of integers on a number line.

Materials used : Scale, Pencil, Pen, Colour Pens etc.

Previous knowledge :

i) Natural numbers : All counting numbers are called natural numbers. It is denoted

by ‘N’

N = {1, 2, 3, 4, 5, ....}

ii) Whole numbers : Natural numbers including zero is called whole numbers. It

is denoted by ‘W’

W = {0, 1, 2, 3,.. }

iii) Integers : The set containing the positive numbers and negative numbers

together with zero called as the set of integers “we denote the

set of integers with “Z or I”.

Z or I = {.......–3, –2, –1, 0, 1,2,3,......}

iv) Positive numbers: All natural numbers are called positive numbers.

v) Negative numbers: Natural numbers with ‘-’ sign are called negative numbers.

Carl Friedrich Gauss

Procedure : Representation of integers on a number line.

Draw a line mark a point ‘0’ (zero) on it.
Now mark equal distances on the right as well as on the left of
‘0’.
On right hand side, label the points as 1,2,3,4........
While on left handside lebel as –1, –2, –3, –4.........

i) Add two positive integers on number line.

Let add 2 and 3.
Starting from ‘0’ move 2 units to right, from there again move
3 units to right, will reach ‘5’.

∴ 2+3=5
ii) Add a positive integer and a negative integer on a number
line.
Let add 3 and –2.
Starting from ‘0’ move 3 units to right, from there again move
2 units to left, will reach ‘1’.

Bhashyam's :: 3 :: 7th Class_Maths_F.A.–1

∴ 3+(–2) = 1
iii) Add two negative integers on number line.
Let add –2 and –3.
Starting from ‘0’ move 2 units to left and again move 3 units
to left, will reach –5.

∴ –2+(–3) = –5
Conclusion : i) Sum of any two positive integers are positive.
ii) Sum of any two negative integers are negative.

2. FRACTIONS & DECIMALS
Student Information

Name :

Class : VII

Section :

Roll No. :

Name of the school :

Name of the Chapter : FRACTIONS AND DECIMALS

Title of the project : To represent decimal on the place value.

Aim of the project : To represent decimal on the place value.
Materials used : Scale, pencil, sketches...........

History : John Napier 1550. He is a Mathematician and astrologer.

Napiar also made improvements to the idea of the Decimal
fraction by starting the use of decimal points.
Previous knowledge : Place value when we multiply face value with the value of the
place
Decimals : The numbers expressed in decimal form are called decimal
numbers or simple decimals.
A decimal has two parts namely,
i) Whole number part
ii) Decimals part
These parts are separated by dot (.), called the decimal point.

Bhashyam's :: 5 :: 7th Class_Maths_F.A.–1

The part of the left side of the decimal point is the whole number
part and the part on the right side of the decimal point is the
decimal part.
Decimal place : The number of digit contained in the Decimal part of a decimal
give up number the number of decimal places.
Procedure : Place value table for decimals
Place Thousands Hundreds Tens Ones Tenths Hudredths Thousandths
value
        
(1000) (100) (10) (1)      
Example         
i) 46.208 4 6 2 0 8
ii) 0.856 8 5 6
iii) 45.008 4 5 0 0 8
iv) 11.06 1 1 0 6 0
v) 5.56 5 5 6 0
vi) 1.2 1 2 0 0
From the above table,
The expanded form of

i) 46.208 = (4 × 10) + (6 × 1) + (2 × ) + (8 × )

ii) 0.856 = (8 × ) + (5 × ) + (6 × )

iii) 45.008 = (4 × 10) + (5 × 1) + (8 × )

iv) 11.06 = (1 × 10) + (1 × 1) + (6 × )

v) 5.56 = (5 × 1) + (5 × )+ (6 × )

vi) 1.2 = (1 × 1) + (2 × )

Observation : i) Decimal also having place value table.
ii) Decimal also having expended form
Application : Decimals are used to represent quantity of a weight, volume of
liquids, distance, ...............
Bhashyam's :: 6 :: 7th Class_Maths_F.A.–1
Eg: 1) 2.5 kg of rice 2) 2.7 km. 0.07 meters............
3) 1.5 lts milk.
Conclusion : Decimals are playing an important role in our daily life.
