MODULE TITLE : PERFORMING MANICURE AND PEDICURE
MODULE DESCRIPTION : This module covers the knowledge, skills and attitude in
performing manicure and pedicure. It involves preparing
the client, applying nail polish and post service activities.
NOMINAL DURATION : 50 hours

LO1. PREPARE WORKSTATION AND IMPLEMENTS
ASSESSMENT CRITERIA:
1. Carry-out appropriate disinfection and sterilization of equipment and tools for the appointed nail service using registered sterilant/EPA and hospital

grade disinfectants in compliance with applicable laws and government regulations

2. Prepare required supplies and materials.

3. Clean, disinfect and organize the workstation following spa/salon

4. Provide Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) following health and safety standards set by the spa/salon industry

5. Observe proper personal and hand hygiene with knowledge of common microorganisms and process of infection

6. Implement proper handling of equipment, tools, supplies and materials to avoid cross-infection/cross- contamination within the workplace

7. Prepare required documentation tools and materials in accordance with spa/salon policies and procedures

LO2. PREPARE CLIENT
ASSESSMENT CRITERIA:
1. Ensure client is properly seated with safety and comfort throughout the entire service
2. Advise client to remove jewelries and accessories for safety and sanitation
3. Hand over Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to the client in compliance with applicable laws and government regulations.
4. Wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) following spa/salon policies and procedures in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions.
5. If necessary, take client’s vital signs using appropriate instruments to assess general health and capacity to receive spa/salon services
6. Assess and identify client’s nail structure, shape and condition.
7. Contraindicated nail conditions/disorders and diseases that may restrict the manicure or pedicure service are identified and referred to appropriate
health care professionals.
8. Present nail shapes, basic nail designs and available nail polish for client preference.

LO3. PERFORM MANICURE AND PEDICURE
ASSESSMENT CRITERIA:
1. Cleanse and disinfect client’s nails using the appropriate products.

2. Perform basic manicure and pedicure procedures based on client preference, product usage specifications and spa/salon policy.

3. Give given immediate first-aid to accidental cuts/wounds while serious cases are referred to appropriate health professionals following spa/salon

policies and procedures

LO4. CREATE BASIC NAIL DESIGN
ASSESSMENT CRITERIA:
1. Create basic nail design after performing basic manicure and pedicure procedures in accordance with client chosen design and color/s.

2. Apply top or seal coat, and if necessary, a quick-dry product on each polished nail.

3. Evaluate finished work by the client based on the preferred shape, color and design

4. Apply necessary touch-ups as may be required following nail service procedures.

LO5. PERFORM POST SERVICE ACTIVITIES
ASSESSMENT CRITERIA:
1. Advise client on proper nail care and maintenance

2. Clean, disinfect/sterilize and store equipment and tools following spa/salon policies and procedures in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions.

3. Replenish and store products, supplies and materials following spa/salon policies and procedures in accordance with product usage specifications

4. Collect waste materials following proper waste management and disposal procedures in compliance with applicable laws and government

regulations.

5. Clean, disinfect and prepare workstation for the next service

6. Perform proper documentation in accordance with spa/salon policies and procedures.
