Task: Video Analysis
1- Watch the video in the following link:
Why we have too few women leaders. Sheryl Sandberg

ders

2- Write a paragraph of not less than 250 words on the presenter background, discussed
topic, and relevance to life.
The TED Talk, “Why we have too few women leader” is presented by Sherly Sandberg, the
Meta COO. The talk was given in 2010 in December. The speech is given in a full auditorium.
The room does not provide a space for direct connection with the presenter hence the need of
using her personal speech to effectively connect with the audience. Sandberg is so effective I
using ethos as her rhetoric device. She is an accomplished woman who has received many
recognitions due to her achievements through the fact that she gives TED Talk in front of many
people which gives her some level of recognition. Although her experiences and past are not in
depth described in the speech, it is assumed that the audience is well aware of her background.
She shares her personal experience of being among the rare women in the top positions in global
management. The speech is majorly about women as the speaker starts by mentioning how lucky
women and why they do not reach to the top of any profession around the world. According to
the speaker, it is evident that women are doing a good job in almost all aspects of their work, but
unfortunately, they do not get at the top or majority do not get at the top. The topics talks more
about how the problem of having few women in top leadership positions can be fix despite the
many advances in the rights of women that are made in the country and world at large.
According to her, the solution is within the women themselves. In my opinion, I believe the
message is so important in the lives of women and their daughters. They need to follow the three
rules given by the speaker to ensure that they are able to secure places in higher position. It helps
in establishing and promoting gender equality hence providing an opportunity for women to be
able to explore other opportunities besides being at home and taking care of house chores and
children.

3- Analyze the following concepts. (Note that each concept should be answered in a separate
paragraph of not less than 150 words)
There are few presentational aids used by the speaker such as providing statistical information to
show the number of women that are in top leader in global management. This helps the audience
to easily connect with the topic. For example, the speaker mentions that only nine women are in
the head of state, 13% and 16% of women are in board seats in the corporate sector. This only
means that only 20% of the women are in top profession.

In speech delivery, the speaker effectively uses rhetorical devices such as the ethos. For example,
in the presentation, the author commands the stage by ensuring flawless style of communication
hence showing that she is knowledgeable about the topic. in addition, she mentions about the
CEO story who did not know where the women bathrooms were in her office where she had
worked for a long time. This story is not only used to emphasize on her topic but also to improve
her ethos. The story shows that she is well aware of the inequality in many boards meeting
among women. There is also effective use of anecdote where she gives an example of women
having pressure to balance between work and taking care of children.

The speaker effectively uses body language throughout her speech. First, there is moderate
movement from one spot to another ensuring that she keeps her audience engaged. Secondly, the
speaker effectively uses relevant facial expressions to show different emotions throughout her
speech delivery. Looking at her gesture, facial expressions, and movement, it is easy to tell what
the speaker is trying to convey hence the ease of understanding the concept.

Finally, the proposition type of the speech is value. According to the speaker, the main purpose
of the speech is to help in fixing the problem that many women have hence why they do not have
top leadership positions in global management. The speaker urges the audience to follow the
three rules that will help women and their daughters easily secure positions in top management.
