Six Thinking Hats
The article introduces the use of the six thinking hats as a unique teaching technique that
helps in enhancing the thinking skills of students. With these thinking hats, it is easy to ensure
that issues are addressed from different perspectives. According to the article, the six thinking
hats framework helps individuals to extend and organize their thinking in order to ensure
effective decision making. The main purpose of using these hats is to direct the process of
thinking into different areas where one area at a time is considered. The article explores on the
application of the six thinking hats in educational sector which is effective as it helps students to
think for themselves. The article deals explain the comprehensive overview of the six thinking
hats, their benefits, and how to effectively use the six thinking hats technique.

These hats have different meaning. The white hat indicates an exclusive focus on
information. The red hat allows someone to have free expression of the emotions, intuitions, and
feeling withing providing an explanation. The black hat is for providing caution and stopping
readers from doing harmful or dangerous things. The yellow hat is for positive logics where the
thinker seeks for values and determining the different ways in which an idea can be workable.
The green hat is the action and creative hat where alternatives are provided to help in seeking out
fresh ideas and generating possibilities. Finally, the blue hat is the control hat that deals with the
management of the thinking process.

The benefits of the six thinking hats are that it allows students to say things without risk
as they are strong in prevention of Spiral of silence. It helps in creating awareness about the
availability of different perspective in handling an issue. It allows one to temporarily focus their
thinking on a specific aspect. It helps individuals to expand their capacity of thinking by
adopting a perspective that is not theirs. It promotes creative thinking through the dialogues, it
improves communication, and decision making.

The six thinking hats can either be used individually or as a group. Individually, this
technique can be used in sorting out individual thoughts by using a single particular hat. In case
the issue is complex, it allows the use of a formal structured sequence of sorting the issue.
Similarly, these can be used in a group to explored topics as a group emotionally and factually.

The Six Thinking hats are either used by an individual or a group to help in moving out of their
habitual thinking ways and try out different approaches and think how to move forward
constructively.

The framework of the six thinking hats provides an opportunity for the students to extend
and organize their thinking. These can be integrated effectively in classroom programs and allow
students to discuss and examine a topic in different perspectives hence helping in simplifying a
complex thinking process. They are so important in students’ life as they help in improving
creativity, communication, decision making process, creates awareness, and allows free thinking.
The technique can be used by a group of individually when they need to move out of their
thinking habits. Teachers need to implement creative and critical thinking in classroom through
application of the six thinking hats.
