Critique: campaign poster

by: Adrian Santiago

This campaign poster depicts a hand, and a circle in the palm of it. The hand has words on it
and inside the circle is the word “Internet”. The words painted/inside the hand includes Love, Peace,
Education, Values. Unfortunately, the other words are blurred/Unclear that it can not be identified what
It is. This campaign poster is about 3 inches tall and 3 inches wide. The module is printed black and
white which I think resulted unclear features of the campaign poster. In addition, it also resulted as
unsuccessful campaign poster and it left the student(s) doubtful and hesitant on their critiquing activity.

Base on what is shown or can be seen part of the campaign poster, it is about netiquette and
ethics of a responsible individual online so that online platforms will less likely to be abused. Online
abuse includes a diversity of tactics and malicious behaviors ranging from sharing embarrassing or cruel
content about a person to impersonation, doxing, stalking and electronic surveillance to the
nonconsensual use of photography and violent threats. The online harassment of women, sometimes
called Cybersexism or cybermisogyny, is specifically gendered abuse targeted at women and girls online.
It incorporates sexism, racism, religious prejudice, homophobia and transphobia. The purpose of
harassment differs with every incidence, but usually includes wanting to embarrass, humiliate, scare,
threaten, silence, extort or, in some instances, encourages mob attacks or malevolent engagements.

For those who experience online harassment directly, these encounters can have profound
real-world consequences, ranging from mental or emotional stress to reputational damage or even fear
for one’s personal safety. At the same time, harassment does not have to be experienced directly to
leave an impact. Around (57%) of women say they have decided not to post something online after
witnessing the harassment of others, while more than one-in-ten (13%) say they have stopped using an
online service after witnessing other users engage in harassing behaviors.

In conclusion, we have to practice the basic netiquette as an online-users to avoid

oppression and abuse to women hence, the words inside the hand in the campaign poster (Education,
love, peace, and values.) We have to be socially aware on what is happening outside our experiences
only. In the end, feminism is not about women being the leaders or women to be in control of
everything but for women to have equality and rights they deserve. Feminism is not about women to
take advantage on every other gender, they are disregarding the patriarchy that violates human rights
and enables oppression.
